DANBURY â Barnes & Noble Booksellers is inviting all local children in grades 3-8 to participate in its Third Annual Essay Writing Contest. The competition continues until October 6.
This yearâs topic is âLiving in the Year 2000.â Each essay should contain one or more observations about life at the beginning of the new millennium. Each should also exhibit a personal touch and contain specific examples and details.
Participants should mail or bring in a legible copy of their essay to the Danbury Square store of Barnes & Noble, at 15 Backus Avenue, by closing time on Friday, October 6. Each entry should be marked with the writerâs name, telephone number, name of school attending, and grade.
Writings will then be judged in three groupings with first, second and third place prizes (Barnes & Noble gift certificates) awarded in each category. The categories and essay lengths are as follows: grades 3 and 4, between 50 and 100 words; grades 5 and 6, 100 to 200 words; and grades 7 and 8, 200 to 300 words.
Winners will be contacted no later than October 25 and invited to an awards presentation set to take place at Barnes & Noble on Thursday, November 2, at 8 pm. For additional information, contact the store by calling 730-2733.
