'The Tricky Part:' Martin Moran's One-Man Show, For One Night Only
âThe Tricky Part:â Martin Moranâs One-Man Show, For One Night Only
WASHINGTON â Broadway veteran Martin Moran is scheduled to perform his Obie Award-winning play, The Tricky Part, for on Saturday, September 25, at the First Congregational Church of Washington, at 8 pm.
The Tricky Part humorously and candidly delves into the life of its star and his personal journey. He tells of the riveting journey through the complexities of Catholicism, sexuality and human trespass, traversing three years of his life, while from the age of 12 to 15 he is in an abusive relationship with a male counselor he met at Camp St Malo, a holy retreat for Catholics near Denver.
âDespite dark material, this is not a downbeat event. Moran ⦠is a confident, engaging presence. His narrative is filled with sharp details and abundant humor as he tells of his Catholic grammar-school days.  Along with its compelling story, the show is an invigorating display of theatrical economy in the service of masterful storytelling,â wrote Ron Cohen in Backstage Magazine (May 21, 2004).
âNot only is the story itself surprising and moving, but itâs also marvelously told. His writing includes so much visual detail that itâs easy to forget that the production consists of little more that a guy sitting on a stool,â said Gordon Cox (Newsday; April 27, 2004).
Mr Moran, 44, whose list of Broadway theatrical credits includes Bells are Ringing, Cabaret, Titanic and How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying is now debuting as a writer with his work The Tricky Part. His memoir of the same title is scheduled to be published by Beacon Press in 2005. The Tricky Part is a 2004 Obie winner and holds nominations for Best Play and Best Solo Performance by Drama Desk.
Tickets are $50 each and can be reserved in advance by calling 860-210-7895. All proceeds of this production will go to the Shepaug Friends of Music, an organization whose purpose is to foster an appreciation of music among elementary, middle and high school students who reside in or attend school within the Shepaug Valley region, through training and performance that goes beyond the opportunities available through existing educational curriculum.
