The Characteristics

Of Watercolor

The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will have Marija Pavlovich McCarthy demonstrating in watercolor on Wednesday, September 22, at 1:30 pm. The demonstration is open to the public and will be held in the lower level at Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street (at the flagpole) in Newtown. Admission is free.

In her demonstration, Ms McCarthy will correlate the uniqueness of the art of watercolor technique to its shared characteristics with other chromatic mediums. She will remind, as she usually does in her classes, that the quality of art in any medium greatly depends on the dedication and talent of the artist and the degree of truth in the painting, and much less on the mastery of the technique.

A Connecticut painter and educator in all mediums, Marija McCarthy has been popular for her insightful critique sessions at SCAN. She regularly teaches at Washington Art Association and is an active member of New England Watercolor Society, Copley Society of Boston, Connecticut Watercolor Society and New Haven Paint and Clay Club.

Ms McCarthy’s early training in her native Yugoslavia, along with solid instruction at both Corcoran School of Art and the George Washington University, provide the foundation for her work.

Her work has been published in Watercolor and American Artist magazines. She will be exhibiting paintings at Woodbury Antiques and Fine Art opening on October 16.
