Slow Your Clock Down For Better Health

FARMINGTON — Judith Reichman, MD, best-selling author and medical correspondent for NBC’s Today show, will visit the University of Connecticut Health Center on Monday, September 20, to share insights from her new book, Slow Your Clock Down, The Complete Guide to a Healthy, Younger You.

Sponsored by Celebrate Women, Dr Reichman’s presentation will run from 6 to 8 pm in the Health Center’s Keller Auditorium and will be followed by a book-signing. The event is free and registration is required. Call 866-4-FEMALE or 860-679-8899.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for local women to hear from a leading women’s health expert,” said Carolyn D. Runowicz, MD, director of the Carole and Ray Neag Comprehensive Cancer Center and the women’s health program at UConn Health Center. “Dr Reichman is a very dynamic speaker with a positive, empowering message to share with women of all ages,” she said.

In Slow Your Clock Down, Dr Reichman provides a comprehensive look at how the aging process affects women, as well as steps women can take to maximize their overall health, vitality, appearance, and mental health.

“This book is both a medical and personal quest to optimize the minutes and hours of our internal and external clocks, not simply to get more done, but to have time to savor what we’ve accomplished and have the good health to do so,” Dr Reichman writes in the introduction.

Dr Reichman’s presentation on September 20 will touch upon strategies to feel younger and healthier through regular exercise, including aerobic exercise, strength training and flexibility training; nutrition, including the “Slow Down Your Clock Diet”; routine screening tests and when to have them; vitamins and supplements; skin care, and ways to stay young and healthy in mind and spirit.

These issues are explored in detail in Dr Reichman’s book, Slow Your Clock Down.

“It’s an enjoyable book, full of sound medical information,” Dr Runowicz said, adding that the health center, through the Neag Cancer Center and the Celebrate Women initiative, strives to give women the tools they need to make wise decisions about their health.

Along with her schedule of television and speaking appearances, Dr Reichman maintains an active practice in Los Angeles, specializing in gynecology, infertility, and menopause. She is the author of several books including Relax This Won’t Hurt: Painless Answers to Women’s Most Pressing Health Questions; I’m Not in the Mood: What Everyone Woman Should Know About Improving Her Libido; and I’m Too Young to Get Old: Health Care for Women After Forty.
