Historical Society’s Fall Antiques Show Returns September 26

The second of two successful annual fund raising antiques shows sponsored by Newtown Historical Society will be held Sunday, September 26, from 10 am to 4 pm, at Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main Street in Newtown.

As a result of the highly successful spring antiques shows that have been held over the past 20 years, the society received many requests to host a second show in the fall. For the second year organizers are excited to present another wonderful roster of quality dealers who will bring diverse merchandise to an already popular show.

Show manager Nancy Taylor says she is proud of the society’s shows as they present a wide variety of quality merchandise with reasonable pricing. The reputation of Newtown Historical society’s shows is one of affordable antiques from highly regarded dealers.

Returning this year is Steve Balser, Old Horizon Antiques, who will have his popular booth of quality primitive furniture and accessories, and Joan Cole will show her baskets, woodenware, stoneware, ironstone, and select glass and china.

Richard Visokay of Richard Visokay Antiques in Bethel will bring a selection of period American furniture, primitive appointments and works of art.

The well respected dealer, Jim Murphy of J&J Murphy Americana, Newtown, whose booth of primitive furniture is always a highlight of the show, will be returning. Cecelia Farrell Designs will showcase linens and textiles; Louise Baker of Baker Antiques will have her kitchenware from the 30s through the 50s; and Susanne Edgerly will have a booth of country furniture and accessories along with apothecary items from Main Street Antiques in Kent.

Caroline Dirsa from Orange will be a bright spot in the show with polished brass candlesticks and woodenware and primitive pieces. Patrons can look for something new in Shelley Smith’s popular booth of antique and vintage children items; and Lydia Gadman of Chimney Corner Antiques, Newburyport, Mass., will be returning with her popular collection of authenticated prints, beautifully framed with subject appropriate details.

Rick and Candy Pirozzoli of Sport Hill Antiques in Redding are returning to the show this fall. Louis Beauchamp of Witchtree Antiques, Connecticut and New York, always has a glittering booth of crystal, lamps and accessories, and F. Bandersnatch Antiques of Bethel will be bringing a wide variety of china, glassware, Americana, country primitives and silver.

Many more exciting dealers will be brought together to present a show that promises to be one of the best selections of any area antiques event.

Admission to the show is $5 with the proceeds benefiting Newtown Historical Society’s free public programs as well as preservation of the Matthew Curtiss House Museum and its collections. The circa 1750 Curtiss House, located across the street from the antiques show, will be opened during the day for a free demonstration and tours by costumed guides.
