Notes

Jessica Horvath of Sandy Hook was among 545 students who participated in this past August’s “Goon Squad” at Syracuse University in Syracuse, N.Y. The Squad’s 2004 program, “A Slice of SU Life,” is the university’s signature orientation program. In addition to helping new students move into their new dorm location, Goon Squad members were also on hand to answer questions regarding campus policies as well as provide directions to various buildings on and around campus.

Christine Jeltema, a 1998 graduate of Newtown High School, was among 70 students, out of 4,000 applicants, accepted to the Connecticut State Police Academy for classes beginning October 1. The Connecticut State Police is a highly structured organization whose operation is guided by policies, procedures, rules, and regulations that must be strictly followed by its personnel.

Ms Jeltema holds a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice and law from Western Connecticut State University. She had been working full-time in the Connecticut National Guard’s drug prevention program.
