Tipped Car Onto Side

Newtown Police report Meghan Samuels, 34, of New Milford, operating a 2011 Jeep Wrangler, was traveling eastbound on Wasserman Way in the area of Nunnawauk Road at 11:59 pm August 21. Samuels’ vehicle collided with a guardrail and tipped on its side.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.

Samuels was issued a verbal warning for traveling unreasonably fast.

Borough Sign Stolen

Newtown Police are seeking the assistance from the public regarding a criminal mischief and larceny incident with a Borough of Newtown signs.

The sign located at Castle Hill Road and Taunton Lake Road was cut down sometime before August 29 and taken by unknown individuals. This was a custom sign the borough had purchased approximately 15 months ago, valued at approximately $2,000. It is white and color, with black lettering, and approximately seven feet tall.

DUI And Evading Charges

Newtown Police report Christian Morlock, 25, of Newtown, operating a 2020 Jeep Cherokee, was traveling southbound on Brushy Hill Road at 6:43 pm August 29. Morlock ran off the road and struck a telephone pole. He was driven home in the vehicle by another party.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was not towed.

Morlock was arrested on the charges of operating under the influence of alcohol or drugs, evading responsibility for property damage, and making a restricted turn.

Hit Guardrail

Newtown Police report Jose Selada, 20, of Danbury, operating a 2005 Honda CR-V, was traveling northbound on Toddy Hill Road at 12:23 am August 31. Selada’s vehicle went off the road and shoulder to the left, striking a guardrail. Selada told police another vehicle was heading towards him and was in his lane.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.

Selada was charged with operating an unregistered motor vehicle and failure to grant right of way.

Hit Pole and Two Road Signs

Newtown Police report Dana Mailhot, 46, of Bethel, operating a 2017 GMC Terrain, was traveling southbound on Berkshire Road just past Sherman Street at 11:33 am August 31. Due to a steering malfunction, Mailhot’s vehicle left the roadway and struck a utility pole and two road signs indicating a curve in the roadway.

Mailhot was transported to Danbury Hospital with possible injuries. The vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was mentioned in the report.

Avoided Deer, Hit Rocks

Newtown Police report Chimbo Guaman, 24, of Danbury, operating a 2010 Honda Civic, was traveling northbound on High Rock Road at 5:37 am September 1. Guaman swerved to the left to avoid collision with a deer that crossed in front of the vehicle. The vehicle struck and drove over multiple rocks located on the roadside.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.

Guaman was issued a verbal warning for failure to drive in the proper lane.

Struck Bushes And Rocks

Newtown Police report Mackenzie Deering, 22, of Monroe, operating a 2008 Acura TSX, was traveling northbound on Hattertown Road at 7:37 am September 3. Deering lost control of the vehicle, crossed the centerline, went across the southbound lane, and went off the roadway, where it struck some bushes and large rocks.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.

Deering was issued a verbal warning for failure to drive an unreasonable distance apart and making a restricted turn.

Unregistered, Uninsured

Newtown Police report that officers conducted a traffic stop at 9:57 pm September 4 to investigate multiple motor vehicle violations. The operator, Jacob Dube, 30, of Newtown, was placed under arrest after it was determined he had an outstanding arrest warrant in his name. Dube was charged with failure to respond to an infraction and given a court date of September 18 in Danbury Superior Court.

Dube was also issued an infraction for operating an unregistered motor vehicle and failure to meet minimum insurance.

Failure To Drive Right

Newtown Police report Victor Cataquet, 51, of Danbury, operating a 2020 Kia Sorrento, was traveling eastbound on Church Hill Road at 8:05 am September 5. Stephen Roman, 58, of Newtown, operating a 2024 Audi Q5, was turning right onto Church Hill Road from the Interstate 84 exit 11 ramp. Cataquet crossed the double yellow centerline and the left side of his vehicle collided with the left front corner of Roman’s vehicle.

Roman reported a possible minor injury but was not transported. Both vehicles were towed.

Cataquet was issued an infraction for failure to drive right.

Collision In Parking Lot

Newtown Police report Mateus Schatz, 17, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe, was in the parking lot of Newtown High School at 7:58 am September 6. A 2015 Jeep Patriot with two occupants, owned by Ryan Slater of Newtown, was parked in a marked marking spot in the same lot. While parking, Schatz’s vehicle struck Slater’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was taken.

Friendly Wave Ends In Collision

Newtown Police report Sarah Pollak, 29, of Monroe, operating a 2018 Acura RDX, was traveling northbound on South Main Street at 1:54 pm September 6. Kevin Rau, 23, of Newtown, operating a 2014 Buick Enclave, was traveling southbound on South Main Street in the right hand, through lane of travel. An uninvolved vehicle stopped in the southbound left turn lane waved Pollak on to turn left. Pollak’s vehicle struck Rau’s vehicle during the turn.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Pollak was issued an infraction for failure to grant right of way while making a left turn.

Following Too Close

Newtown Police report Zoe Petertonjes, 16, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2017 Volkswagen Jetta, was traveling southbound on Toddy Hill Road. She was traveling behind a 2010 Nissan Frontier operated by Ryan Nelson, 39, of Middlebury. Nelson stopped for traffic and Peterjones rear-ended Nelson’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Peterjones was issued a written warning for following too close.

Three Vehicle Collision

Newtown Police report Rocco Chiappetta, 24, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2016 Ford F250, was traveling eastbound on Church Hill Road at 12:37 pm September 8. Carlos Montero, 24, of Waterbury, operating a 2024 Toyota Rav4, was traveling eastbound on Church Hill Road, ahead of Chiappetta. Eveann Stowell, 61, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2022 Chevrolet Equinox, was traveling westbound on Church Hill Road. Montero stopped to turn left onto Ardi Court.

The front of Chiappetta’s vehicle struck the rear of Montero’s vehicle, which caused Montero’s vehicle to be pushed into the driver’s side of Stowell’s vehicle.

Montero and Stowell were transported to Danbury Hospital for suspected injuries.

Chiappetta was issued an infraction for following too close.

Failure To Appear Charge

Newtown Police arrested Angelica Bryant, 33, of New Haven, at 8:45 am September 9, on the charge of second-degree failure to appear. She was held with a court date later that day.

Prius Hits Sonata

Newtown Police report Devin Hardy, 33, of Jackson, Wyo, operating a 2015 Toyota Prius, was traveling southbound on South Main Street, approaching the intersection with Botsford Hill Road, at 5:10 pm September 9. Rebekah Carolla, 54, of East Haven, operating a 2011 Hyundai Sonata, was stopped in a line of traffic at a red light at the intersection. Hardy rear-ended Carolla’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Hardy was issued a verbal warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Hit Cable Wire

Newtown Police report Todd Adams, 45, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2008 Sterling LT9500, was backing into a driveway on Mount Nebo Road at 3:45 pm September 10. While backing, the vehicle struck and pulled down an overhead cable wire.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was not towed.

No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.
