BETHEL — Newtown High School’s football team took advantage of great field position thanks to its defense and special teams to score some short field touchdowns on the way to a 41-3 win at Bethel on September 16.

Quarterback Dylan Magazu opened the scoring with a 13-yard run and added a 14-yard touchdown scamper as the Nighthawks built a 14-0 lead after one quarter of play.

J.J. Haddick’s rush up the middle capped a quick, three-play drive for a 21-0 lead less than two minutes into the second quarter.

Bethel got on the board with a field goal with 3:03 remaining before the half.

A solid kick return by Andrew Grenier gave the Nighthawks possession at the Bethel 47 yard line. On the next play, Magazu broke to the left sideline and, shook off multiple tacklers, and went the distance for yet another trip into the paint and a 28-3 lead with 2:30 left in the half.

With halftime just around the corner, the Nighthawks were not done scoring yet. Magazu connected with Brock Dukate on a six-yard TD pass and catch and it was 35-3 Nighthawks at the break.

Magazu passed to Haddick for a 32-yard score in the second half.

The Hawks will travel to Hand of Madison for game Friday, September 23 at 7 pm.
