Loose Change Can Help Build Adaptive Playground

To The Editor,

Further to the excellent articles in recent editions of The Bee, the Newtown Lions Club is, indeed, close to reaching the “fund-raising” finish line for our Playground Project.

The key $90,000 appropriation from the Town Budget and generous offer of $35,000 in labor for groundwork/installation from Parks and Rec, together with $44,000+ raised by the Newtown Lions to date, puts us at over $169,000 toward our goal of $172,250.

Saturday September 25 is an important day.

As many Newtown Bee readers will know, we are holding two fund-raising activities outside Chintz ‘N Prints at 39 South Main Street between 10 am and 2 pm: a tag sale and a “treasure hunt” collection of loose change.

The tag sale will include a variety of good quality items at different price points and some higher end collectibles, such as a limited edition die cast toy NASCAR signed on the original box by Dale Jarrett.

Our “treasure hunt” collections: loose change, placed in plastic bags and delivered for collection to our Pirate Chest have already raised over $3,000 just on their own, so we hope to continue that rich vein of generous contributions.

With your continued support, we shall be able to break ground at Dickinson Park this fall, see the playground additions completed next spring and most importantly experience more “Inclusive/Adaptive Play” in our town.

You can also make a donation by mail to the Newtown Lions Club at PO Box 218, Newtown CT 06470 or electronically via our Webpage: www.newtownlions.com

Sincere thanks to everyone who has contributed already. You have truly helped us “Swing into Action”!
