Timing Could Have Been Better
Timing Could Have Been Better
To the Editor:
From a distance I could see the thousands of tiny blue flags on the lawn in front of St Rose church. It was Saturday, September 10, and I thought what most everyone driving by must have thought â what a wonderful memorial for all those killed on Sept. 11, 2001. But as I slowed to read the banner above the sea of flags, I saw that this display was associated with the politics of abortion and not the commemoration of lives lost in the terrorist attack.
I have to wonder at the timing of this anti-choice statement. Iâm deeply saddened by the lack of compassion that could allow the church to use the deaths of the 9/11 victims for its own purposes. And I have to question the ethics involved in abusing our collective grief in this way.
Sincerely,
Rachel Basch
