Students Invited To Enter Essay Contest To Honor Veterans
HARTFORD â Connecticut middle school students are invited to enter a contest to express what the heroism and commitment of American veterans mean to them. The top winner of the contest will ride in the 12th Annual Connecticut Veterans Parade on Sunday, November 6.
All Connecticut sixth, seventh and eighth grade students may enter the essay contest. The Navy League of the United States-Hartford Council and the State of Connecticut Department of Veterans Affairs are sponsoring the project to encourage middle school students to learn more about the heroism and importance of American servicemen and women throughout the nationâs history.
Entrants will write a one-page essay titled âWhy Should We Honor Veterans?â A panel of judges will select one top essay winner and two runners-up.
The contest entry deadline is Monday, October 3.
The contest is one of the components of the 12th Annual Connecticut Veterans Parade scheduled to be held in downtown Hartford, on Sunday, November 6, starting at 12:30 pm. The parade has become one of the largest veterans parades in the country.
