NHS Marching Band & Guard Takes First
In First Competition Of The Season
In its first competition of the school year, on Saturday, September 10, the Newtown High School Marching Band & Guard captured first place in the Class IV Open Division of the United States Scholastic Band Association (USSBA) competition held at Danbury High School, besting New Milford and Bunnell High Schools.
Earning a score of 73.35, the NHS group also was named Best Color Guard, and earned Caption Awards for Best Music, Best Visual Performance, and Best Overall Effect.
The 113-member band and color guard, under the direction of Kurt Eckhardt, performed its show âIn Sania,â selections from the musical Jekyll and Hyde, for the competition.
This Saturday, September 17, the NHS Marching Band & Guard will compete in another USSBA event at Brien McMahon High School in Norwalk. The show begins at 5 pm, with Newtown expected to take the field at 7:45 pm.
