Mt Pleasant DUI
A resident complaint about a vehicle being operated erratically on Mt Pleasant Road led to the DUI arrest of Meghan Sanchez, 38, of Waterbury just after midnight on September 13. Following the complaint, local officers went to the area and located the vehicle in question. After a brief investigation they placed Sanchez under arrest, transported her to headquarters for processing and released her on a $100 bond with a September 27 court date.
Deer Strike
Newtown police were called to the area of 112 Toddy Hill Road at 9:47 pm on September 13 after a report of a vehicle striking a deer. They found a 2006 Toyota Scion coupe with minor front bumper damage being operated by James B. Harlow, 20, of Pepper Street in Monroe. No enforcement action was taken and no injuries were reported.
Trailer Hit
At about 6:53 pm on September 12 police responded to the intersection of Queen Street and Mile Hill Road after a reported collision. They reported that Eugene G. Martin, 50, of Old Log Town Road in Prospect was operating a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado pickup towing a trailer and waiting to make a left turn from Queen Street. Police say the trailer was struck from behind by Susan M. White, 44, of Charter Ridge Road who was operating a 2006 Cadillac Escalade. The Escalade sustained minor front bumper damage and there was no visible damage to the trailer. White was issued a written warning for following too close.
Failure To Appear
On September 12 at about 11:10 pm, Christopher Detrick, 20, of Charter Ridge Road turned himself in to police after being notified of an active arrest warrant. According to the report, the warrant stemmed from a failure to appear in court stemming from a larceny incident at 5 Queen Street that occurred on September 19, 2010. Detrick was charged with failure to appear in the second degree, larceny in the sixth degree and possession of alcohol by a minor. He was given a September 27 court date and released on a $500 appearance bond.
TV Taken
On September 12 between 1:30 and a 9:30 am, Zenith television was taken from the residence. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact officer John McCluskey at the Newtown Police department at 203-426-5841.
VW Vs Liberty
Police say that on September 13 at about 8 am, an eastbound vehicle on Mt Pleasant Road being operated by Theresa Carlisle of Ridge Road stopped behind a vehicle waiting to turn onto Taunton Lake Road. Police say she was hit from behind by a VW wagon being operated by Joshua Brooks of Circuit Avenue in Watertown, causing major front end damage to the VW, and minor damage to the rear of Carlisleâs Jeep Liberty. There were no injuries and police issued Brooks an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart. His vehicle had to be towed from the scene.
