Harold F. Grady

Shared Knowledge

And Love With Those

He Knew

Harold F. Grady, 81, of Hilton Head Island, S.C., and formerly a longtime resident of Newtown, died peacefully at his home, with his family surrounding him, on June 22.

Mr Grady graduated from the University of Connecticut, with a master’s degree in mechanical engineering. He was an engineer for Textron Lycoming, in Stratford, for more than 30 years, and retired in 1992. He shared his knowledge and love of mathematics in retirement, tutoring local students and assisting local residents with their tax preparations. He looked forward to summer visits from his children and grandchildren. A sign posted in his front window best summed up his political alliance: “This House Votes Democrat.” He also was a lifelong supporter of the Cleveland Indians and New York Giants.

“Poppy,” as he was affectionately referred to, was a loving husband to Jeanne for more than 50 years, an amazing father to his five children, and created the most incredible ice cream sundaes for his 11 cherished grandchildren.

The avid reader that he was, he looked forward to his Sunday “pajama day” with The New York Times and his weekly trip to the local library for his stash of reading material. In his spare time he wrapped his mind around a challenging sudoku or ken ken puzzle.

Survivors include his wife; his children and their spouses, Kerry and wife Isabel, Patrick and wife Cindy, Bridget and husband Ken, Heather and husband Rory, and Lee; and his 11 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Natalie and Harold, and a son, Harold Michael Grady.

A celebration of Mr Grady’s life was held at a private family gathering, on the beach front of his home.
