Change Of Plans, And

‘A Changing Middle East’

SOUTHBURY — Due to unforeseen circumstances, Dr Charles Asher Small has had to reschedule a guest sermon planned at B’nai Israel Southbury originally planned for Friday, September 16. Dr Small’s lecture has been rescheduled for Friday, October 21, at 7:30 pm.

In its place, B’nai Israel Southbury will hold services featuring guest speaker Ben Marchette, New England deputy regional director for the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC). Mr Marchette will speak on “A Changing Middle East: Israel and the Emerging Threats from Turkey, Syria,  Iran, Egypt, and Lebanon.”

Mr Marchette’s appearance is very timely based on recent events that have taken place in the Middle East.

Ben Marchette has a master’s degree in Middle East and national security policy from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs, a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Rochester, and has done coursework at the City College of New York and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. At Columbia, Mr Marchette served as administrator for the University Seminar on the Middle East.

Mr Marchette has lived in Israel and elsewhere in the Middle East, including time serving in the American Embassy in Kuwait.

When he visits Southbury next month Dr Small will still lecture on the theme “Contemporary Global Anti-Semitism: From Incitement to Genocide to Acquiescence in the United States.” The services will be open to the general public at no charge.

B’nai Israel is at 444 Main Street in Southbury (Route 6/67). For more information call 203-267-3396.
