Change Of Plans, And
âA Changing Middle Eastâ
SOUTHBURY â Due to unforeseen circumstances, Dr Charles Asher Small has had to reschedule a guest sermon planned at Bânai Israel Southbury originally planned for Friday, September 16. Dr Smallâs lecture has been rescheduled for Friday, October 21, at 7:30 pm.
In its place, Bânai Israel Southbury will hold services featuring guest speaker Ben Marchette, New England deputy regional director for the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC). Mr Marchette will speak on âA Changing Middle East: Israel and the Emerging Threats from Turkey, Syria, Iran, Egypt, and Lebanon.â
Mr Marchetteâs appearance is very timely based on recent events that have taken place in the Middle East.
Ben Marchette has a masterâs degree in Middle East and national security policy from Columbia Universityâs School of International and Public Affairs, a bachelorâs degree in political science from the University of Rochester, and has done coursework at the City College of New York and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. At Columbia, Mr Marchette served as administrator for the University Seminar on the Middle East.
Mr Marchette has lived in Israel and elsewhere in the Middle East, including time serving in the American Embassy in Kuwait.
When he visits Southbury next month Dr Small will still lecture on the theme âContemporary Global Anti-Semitism: From Incitement to Genocide to Acquiescence in the United States.â The services will be open to the general public at no charge.
Bânai Israel is at 444 Main Street in Southbury (Route 6/67). For more information call 203-267-3396.
