Author To Speak Saturday At Newtown Congregational Church

Newtown Congregational Church will welcome Conor Grennan, author of Little Princes: One Man’s Promise to Bring Home the Lost Children of Nepal, on Saturday, September 17, beginning at 9:45 am, in the Great Room of the church at 14 West Street. Refreshments will be served, followed by a presentation from Mr Grennan, from 10 am to 11 am. The presentation is free and open to the public.

This book, selected as a finalist for the 2011 Dayton Literary Peace Prize, is the true story of Mr Grennan’s yearlong world tour and his volunteering in the Little Princes Orphanage in Nepal, an experience that changed his life when he realized many of the children were not orphans, but rather children stolen from families by child traffickers. Mr Grennan has since committed his efforts to tracking down and returning kidnapped children to their homes.

He is the founder of Next Generation Nepal, a not-for-profit agency dedicated to that cause. Next Generation Nepal has reconnected almost 300 families.

“For Conor, what began as a footloose adventure becomes a commitment to reunite the children he had grown to love with their families, but this would be no small task. He would risk his life on a journey through the legendary mountains of Nepal, facing the dangers of a bloody civil war and a debilitating injury. Waiting for Conor back in Kathmandu, and hopeful he would make it out before being trapped in by snow, was the woman who would eventually become his wife and share his life’s work.

“Little Princes is a true story of families and children, and what one person is capable of when faced with seemingly insurmountable odds. At turns tragic, joyful, and hilarious, Little Princes is a testament to the power of faith and the ability of love to carry us beyond our wildest expectations,” according to the book’s inside cover description.

For more information about the September 17 presentation, contact the church office at 203-426-9024.
