Rob 16, Wizards 7: Adam Beckett and Robby Laporta led a balanced attack for the Robâs squad, and Eugene Citrano and Andrew Janco paved the way for the Wizards.
Rory 12, Dale 1: Co-Player of the day, Tyler Levya made a great catch and hit well, and chris Mok went 3-for-3 to lead Roryâs club. Robert âthe voiceâ Hutchinson and Jeremy Larkin led the way in defeat for Daleâs squad
Purple Ponyos 11, Geckos 0: Ben Terry led a balanced attack of pitching and hitting and Chris Faxon and Peter Kohler contributed on the mound for the shutout.
Hammers 4, Classics 3: Bradley Wiseman had two hits and Greg Brissette picked up his first save of the year in a close battle. Sam Kapur pitched well and Orlando Swift played well behind the plate for the classics
Geckos 4, Hammers 4: Co-Player of the day Matthew Sadowski hit a two -out game-tying two-run single to lead the Geckoâs into a hard fought tie with the Hammers. Dwyer Grimes led the Hammers.
Classics 9, Dale 7: Ryan Escoda nailed down the victory for Eric Moore and Patrick Godino had a 3-for-3 day to lead the gray shirts to victory. Jack Miller hit well and Cole Demerjian made fine defensive plays for Daleâs nine
Wizards 12, Rory 8: Jimmy Davies had great pitching and Kent Mullen had a clutch hit to lead the Wizards over Roryâs squad. Harry Eppers pitched very well in defeat.
Purple Ponyos 12, Hurricanes 8: Ben Harrison, Danny Grosso, and Jack Heinlein played well defensively down the stretch to hold off the Hurricanes.
U15
Newtown Blue 11, Newtown Red 1: Virgil Procaccini went 4-for-4, with a double, three singles, and two runs scored to pace the Blue offense. Jake Simonson was equally impressive, going 3-for-3, including two doubles and two runs scored. Dan Harrison drove in three runs and pitched a hitless inning, striking out two batters. Eli Klorczyk also delivered a clutch hit with a double to drive in two runs. Brandon OâSullivan and Holden Turk rounded out the offensive effort with singles. Pat Pierce picked up the win on the mound, going two innings and striking out two batters. Andrew Ross pitched two innings of no-hit ball before Brandon OâSullivan came in for one inning of relief and also held the Newtown Red offense at bay. Jack Procaccini came in to close the game out in the seventh by striking out the side and securing the win for the Newtown Blue.
Newtown Red was led on offense by Charlie Huegi, Stephen Brittin, and Alec Hersh, all of whom collected hits. Stephen Brittin pitched well in defeat, giving up only two runs in three innings. Brennan OâSullivan made a nice running catch in right field to save a run and nearly completed a double play as he alertly fired the ball to first, just missing getting the returning runner.Â
Newtown Blue 4, New Milford 2: Newtown Blue improved to 2-0 on the young fall season with a nine-inning nail biter against a tough New Milford squad. Trailing by one run with two outs in the seventh and runners on first and third, Blue pulled off a perfectly-executed steal of home. Andrew Ross, the runner on first, took off for second, getting into a rundown long enough to allow Eli Klorczyk to break for home. A New Milford player fired the ball home to attempt the game-ending putout but Klorczyk was able to slide in headfirst, just beating the throw, to send the game into extra innings.
Newtown tacked on two more runs in the top of the ninth for the 4-2 victory. Jack Procaccini had a great game at the plate, going 3-for-3, with a run scored, an RBI, and four stolen bases. Sam Czel added a clutch double in the ninth, stole third base, then scored an insurance run to help seal the victory. Zach Hamar added a run and two stolen bases.
The story of the game, though, was the Newtown pitching. Newtown surrendered only two hits in the nine innings. Virgil and Jack Procaccini combined for five innings of no-hit ball while striking out six batters. Nick Randle went three innings and struck out six batters. Jake Simonson made his pitching debut with one inning of hitless ball. Virgil Procaccini was the winning pitcher, having come on to pitch the final three innings of the game. Â
