Sept. 17 ‘Harmony For Humanity’ Concert

Will Be A Fundraiser For Hurricane Relief

DANBURY — “Sandip Burman and Friends,” a concert performance to feature the Indian tabla virtuoso and music of Indian classical/jazz fusion, and dancers from the Apsaras Dance Company, will be a fundraiser for the American Red Cross and The Southern Arts Foundation; the latter organization will benefit musicians, artists and arts organizations in the areas affected by Hurricane Katrina.

All profits from the September 17 event will be donated to the organizations.

The concert, which was originally planned for The Student Center Theatre at Western CT State University, has been moved to the university’s Berkshire Theater. The theater is on WCSU’s midtown campus, on Osborne Street; patrons should use the parking garage on White Street.

Tickets are $17 for adults, and $10 for students and children.

Advance tickets are available through the WCSU box office; call 203-837-TIXX (8499). Tickets will also be available at the door.

A performance of classical and folk dances of India by local students of Indian dance will be followed by the concert by Mr Burman, who has spent his life studying a circle of tablas tuned to 12-tone scale, adding jazz fusion to mix of Indian melodies and rhythms.

The concert is being co-sponsored by the Connecticut Folklife Project, Inc (501c3 non-profit), the WestConn Theater Department, International Students Association and Office of Diversity Programs, and Danbury Cultural Commission.
