Reed Rally A Success

By Susan Coney

Beautiful, warm weather helped to make last Wednesday’s Reed Rally a picture perfect evening for families to gather, socialize, and become more familiar with the intermediate school. All fifth graders and their families, along with any new students attending Reed, were invited to share a picnic supper on the front lawn of the school.

Families picnicked with their former elementary school groups outside, while teachers and staff that volunteered at the evenings event enjoyed being treated to Assistant Principal Tony Salvatore’s homemade lasagna, salad, and garlic bread.

Students wore their Reed Intermediate School T-shirts to reflect school spirit and enjoyed relaxing games of Frisbee on the lawn during the picnic. Principal Donna Denniston as well as many fifth grade teachers mingled with families on the lawn prior to the scheduled activities that were held that night.

After dinner the students and their families were invited to participate in activities designed to help them meet and interact with other families. Project Adventure games and activities were led by the physical education staff. Families were invited to the cafetorium to view a slide show of the first day of school and enjoyed making their own sundaes, which was a big hit. Special education teacher Michael Altenburger used his disc jockey skills to entice families to a dance held in the gym.

The Reed Rally was well attended. Fifth grader, Andrew Cameron, from Gina Swanson’s class summed up the evening by saying, “I think it is a really nice school with great teachers. I came from Middle Gate School and my favorite thing tonight was meeting all the teachers and making new friends.”
