Former Trumbull Deputy Tax Assessor
Marie Hayden Burns, wife of the late John L. Burns, died on September 8 after a long illness.
Survivors include four sons, John P. Burns of Sandy Hook, Kevin L. Burns and his wife, Agnes, of Newtown, Thomas H. Burns and his wife, Sonia, of Bridgeport, and Patrick M. Burns and his wife, Regina, of Trumbull; one daughter, Karen Petros and her fiancé, Peter Burke, of Florida; one sister, Olive H. Schindler of Trumbull; ten grandchildren, Sean, Brian, Michael, John, and Daniel Burns, Dustin Petros Vain, Jeffrey Petros, Lorin Petros, and Sara Burns-Rivera and Elisabeth Burns-Rivera; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Thomas Hayden, and her sister, Magdalene Hayden.
Mrs Burns was born in Bridgeport and was a Trumbull resident for 42 years before moving to Monroe in 1990. She was a graduate of Warren Harding High School and Bryant College. She was a deputy tax assessor for the Town of Trumbull for many years.
Mrs Burns was a former member of many local organizations including the Junior Guild of Bridgeport, past president and treasurer for the Confraternity of the Rosary of St Theresaâs Church, the Trumbull Democratic Womenâs Club, the Womenâs Auxiliary of the Long Hill Fire Department, the Bridgeport Council of Catholic Women, past treasurer of the League of St Josephâs Manor, the Rosary Altar Society of St Stephenâs Church, the Trumbull Womenâs Club, and the Monroe Senior Citizens.
Funeral services were held on September 12 in St Judeâs Church, Monroe. Interment was in Long Hill Cemetery.
