Downtown Cabaret Will Benefit From The Production Of Two Favorite Comedies

BRIDGEPORT — Neil Simon’s comedy classic The Sunshine Boys and Danny Goggin’s latest creation, Nunsensations: The Nunsense Vegas Revue, will be presented by Downtown Cabaret Theatre in support of the theatre’s ongoing fundraising campaign, Campaign Cabaret.

The Sunshine Boys is running continue through September 18. Immediately following and direct from a hit national tour will be Nunsensations: The Nunsense Vegas Revue, opening September 23 and running through October 16.

Fans of the DCT production of Sugar Babies will remember Marty Passante’s hilarious performance as The Second Banana. Mr Passante is now starring in The Sunshine Boys.

One of the best plays in Neil Simon’s phenomenal career, the show is a delirious and superb comedy filled with the loving humor that links people of all ages, all seasons. Audiences can expect two solid hours of entertainment.

Performances are Fridays at 8 pm, Saturdays at 3 and 7 pm, and Sundays at 3 pm. All tickets are $38.50.

In Nunsensations, the crazy Sisters of Hoboken go to Las Vegas. In this all new, sixth edition of  the Nunsense series, a parishioner has promised The Little Sisters of Hoboken $10,000 for their school if they will perform in Vegas.

After convincing Reverend Mother that “what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas,” the Sisters are off on another hilarious adventure — to the Pump Room Lounge high atop the Mystic Motor Lodge in the soul of Sin City.

Praise the Lord and pass the sequins! Among the night of shenanigans and hoopla the Sisters will host a game of “Holy Rollers.”

Nunsensations: The Nunsense Vegas Revue will be performed Fridays at 8 pm, Saturdays at 5:30 and 8:30 pm, and Sundays at 5:30 pm. Tickets for the show will be $38.50 and $12.50.

Senior discounts will be offered for both shows on 5:30 performances. Rush tickets, at $25, will be available one hour before curtain; senior rush tickets for all shows are $10. Group rates are also available, call the group sales office at 203-335-7489.

Producers of The Downtown Cabaret Theatre have offered their thanks to both Mr Passante and Mr Goggin for their marvelous gestures of support. When the word was barely out that the Cabaret was in financial peril, Mr Goggin called to offer his production of Nunsensations without charging the usual reproduction costs and fees. Mr Passante has joined him in an equally generous collaboration to benefit DCT by presenting The Sunshine Boys.

Campaign Cabaret will continue in support of the Cabaret Children’s Company 2005-06 season, opening on October 1, and to raise funds for a potential 2006-07 Mainstage season.

Box office hours are Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 10 am to 2 pm, and until curtain on show days. The box office can be reached by calling 203-576-1636. Additional information is available online at www.DowntownCabaret.org.
