My name is Stephen Sedensky and I am running on the Democratic slate for Police Commission. I was appointed last year to fill an open vacancy.

Over the past year I have been truly impressed by the nonpartisan nature of this commission and its desire to act in the best interest of our citizens.

With my background as a state prosecutor for over 37 years, the last 14 of which were as your State’s Attorney, I know we have a very good police department. If elected, I will continue to bring this background and experience to the Police Commission. While I continue to work as a Special Assistant State’s Attorney, I am now able to devote additional time to serving our town.

My wife Nancy and I raised our two children here, both of us volunteering in schools and youth sports. We have seen much town growth. With that growth comes challenges to public safety and an increased need for traffic safety.

The Police Commission as the town’s traffic authority is in the unique position to address this traffic growth and ensure our ongoing safety. I believe that my experiences working with crime victims and many police departments over the years will serve Newtown well in all aspects of public safety and police oversight and make me one of the best candidates for the Commission.

As a member of the Police Commission, I promise with the Democratic slate to:

*Continue to support a nonpartisan approach to the Police Commission that has served our Town well.

*Continue to appoint, promote, suspend, and remove Town police officers, as well as serve as the traffic authority for the town of Newtown.

*Support traffic safety, including proper markings for our roads.

*Pass and promote police regulations supporting best practices for our police department.

*Hire and promote qualified officer candidates who demonstrate commitment to the Town, our citizens and upholding our laws and protection of our citizens.

*Support and strengthen Newtown’s schools and Town communities through education, mentorship, and police/community awareness programs.
