2nd Annual Passport To Sandy Hook

Sandy Hook Organization for Prosperity (SHOP), a group of local business owners and community members from Sandy Hook, is pleased to announce the Second Annual Passport To Sandy Hook. The event will take place on Saturday, October 6, from 11 am to 4 pm, in the downtown Sandy Hook Village area of Glen Road, Church Hill Road, Washington Avenue, and Riverside Road.

“We are so excited about this event,” said SHOP President Mike Burton. “It is a great opportunity for people to come and see all that Sandy Hook has to offer. We have several new businesses participating this year and look forward to welcoming people of all ages to enjoy the day with us.”

This year’s participating businesses include The Children’s Adventure Center, The Country Mill, demitasse café, Family Fun Kuts/Fun Kids Consignments, Figs Wood Fired Bistro, The Graceful Planet Moving Arts Center, The Iron Bridge at 100 Church Hill, Julie’s Piano Workshop, PJ’s Laundromat, Porco’s Karate Academy, Sabrina Style, Sandy Hook Deli & Catering, Sandy Hook Hair Co., Stone River Grille, Suzuki Music School, The Thomas Sheehan Agency, The Toy Tree, The Villa Restaurant, and Wishing Well.

The Hook Restaurant, located in Sandy Hook but not within walking distance of the event, has signed on to participate and will be represented at Passport To Sandy Hook. In addition, Colbert Photographer, Heaven Ice Cream, and McLaughlin Vineyards are also supporting the event.

On the day of the event, participants will be able to pick up a “passport” from any of the participating locations in Sandy Hook. As they walk from place to place enjoying the treats, they will receive a stamp. Completed passports will be entered in a drawing to receive a prize package worth more than $1,500, with prizes donated by participating businesses.

The event, sponsored by Newtown Savings Bank and Andy Sachs’ Deals Around Town, will also feature live music by John Voket and The Bobby Donaldson Band, giveaways or discounts at local shops, samples from dining establishments, face painting, a bounce house, and visits with Newtown Canine Officer Felicia Figol and Baro.

“Sandy Hook is a great place to own a business,” said Tamara Doherty, the owner of Wishing Well. “There is a real sense of community among us, and I am looking forward to welcoming our frequent visitors and new faces to the Sandy Hook area.”

During the event, Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Co. members will have two fire trucks on hand. One truck will serve as a “Touch-A-Truck” location for participants of all ages to enjoy, and the second will serve as a “stuff-a-truck” setup. The Passport event is free, but participants are asked to bring a nonperishable food item to help fill the fire truck, with all items to be donated to FAITH Food Pantry.
