Roving Patrols Used For Mobile Enforcement

Police report that during the Labor Day weekend period from August 30 to September 5, they conducted roving patrols in town in seeking out drunken drivers in an effort to reduce the fatalities and injuries that are caused by intoxicated motorists.

In their expanded enforcement project, police made one arrest for driving under the influence, arrested one motorist for driving with a suspended license, and issued one infraction for failure to wear a seatbelt.

Also, police issued 24 infractions for speeding, handed out 19 written warnings for speeding, and issued seven infractions for violating stop signs.

Additionally, police gave out 15 infractions for vehicular equipment/registration problems and issued 36 warnings for miscellaneous violations, according to Sergeant John Cole.

Such roving patrol enforcement projects receive grant funding that covers 75 percent of police overtime costs.
