Police Investigation
Police report that they are investigating an incident in which a person who caused an unspecified motor vehicle accident in Sandy Hook Center left the scene without reporting the matter.
Police said that the vehicular accident occurred sometime between 10 am and 6:30 pm on Friday, August 31, in the parking lot lying behind 100-102 Church Hill Road. Police did not provide details on what occurred.
Police ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact investigating Officer William Chapman at the police station.
Failure To Pay Wages
Police said that at about 11 am on September 6, they went to Rocky Glen Mill at 75 Glen Road and served an arrest warrant against Paul Carpenter, 49, of 19 Parmalee Hill Road, charging Carpenter with failure to pay wages.
Police said they served the warrant at the request of the state Department of Labor, which had investigated a wage complaint against Carpenter.
Police said they released Carpenter from custody on $18,000 bail for a September 19 arraignment in Danbury Superior Court.
Theft From Vehicle
Police report that at about 9:20 am on September 2, someone removed unspecified property from an unlocked motor vehicle that was parked near Cavanaugh Pond at 13 Echo Valley Road.
Police said that at about the time of the theft, a light green pickup truck which held two male occupants was spotted in that area.
Police received word of the incident late on the morning of September 2. Police ask anyone with information on the matter to contact them at the police station.
Theft Charges
Late on the morning of September 7, police received a report that a merchandise theft had occurred at Olympia Sports, a sporting goods store at Sand Hill Plaza at 228 South Main Street (Route 25).
Police said they went there to investigate and obtained a description of the people involved in the incident.
Police said they found the suspects traveling on Toddy Hill Road, after which they stopped them and investigated.
Police said they charged Theresa James, 45, of Danbury with sixth-degree larceny and with tampering with evidence. Police added that they charged Jessica Kunz, 29, of Danbury with sixth-degree larceny, with tampering with evidence, and with littering.
Each of the two women were released on $500 bail for September 20 court appearances, police said.
ATV Crash
Police said that Edgardo Davila, 24, of 64 Forest Drive was riding a motorized all-terrain vehicle (ATV) on a small dirt pathway in the backyard at 7 Grays Plain Road at about 6:15 pm on September 7, when the ATV struck a rock, resulting in moderate injuries to Davila. Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps members transported Davila to Danbury Hospital, police said. Police took no enforcement.
Maxima On Median
State police said that motorist Walter Hope, 23, of New Fairfield, who was driving a 1997 Nissan Maxima sedan westward on Interstate 84 near Exit 9 on September 9, told them that a deer ran across the highway, resulting in his swerving to avoid it.
The auto went onto the median and struck the central guardrailing, state police said. Hope was not injured. State police said they verbally warned him for failure to drive in the proper lane.
Bee Into SUV
Police said that motorist Christina Migliaro, 47, of Monroe was driving a 2009 Chevrolet Traverse SUV with two passengers westward near 292 Berkshire Road (Route 34) at about 11 am on September 8, when a bee flew into the vehicleâs interior.
Migliaro then lost control of the SUV and struck an embankment along the right road shoulder, damaging the vehicle, police said. There were no injuries.
Police said they verbally warned Migliaro for making a restricted turn.
Trespassing Charges
Police said that they responded about 5:43 pm on September 7, to a report concerning a suspicious vehicle parked at 44 Swamp Road at the site of the former Batchelder aluminum smelting plant.
Police said they found two people on the property, which is posted against trespassing. Police said they issued both John Matthews, 18, of 18 Hyvue Drive, and an unidentified youth under age 18 infractions on a charge of simple trespassing. Such infractions carry a fine or may be appealed in court.
Court Appearance
Police report that they went to the residence of Charles Allen Dos Santos, 38, of Bethel about 9:30 pm on September 10 and served a warrant against him charging him with failure to respond to an infraction, possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police said that they had issued Dos Santos an infraction on the marijuana and the paraphernalia charges on January 15 in Newtown, but Dos Santos did not either pay the fines involved or appeal the charges in court, so they obtained a warrant for his arrest, which now requires him to appear in Danbury Superior Court to respond to the charges.
Dos Santos was released on $310 bail for a September 25 court appearance, police said.
Subaru Vs Pole
At about 11:47 pm on September 7, motorist Christopher Sherwood, 26, of Fairfield was driving a 1997 Subaru Legacy station wagon southward on Toddy Hill Road, near its intersection with Turkey Roost Road, when Sherwood drove off the roadâs right shoulder and struck a utility pole, police said.
Sherwood was not injured. Police said they issued him an infraction on charges of making a restricted turn and illegal use of a handheld cellphone while driving.
Hawleyville Incident
Police report that at about 9 am on September 12, they spotted motorist Tia Lauren Gayle, 23, of Danbury driving northward on Currituck Road and approaching its intersection with Obtuse Road and Hawleyville Road.
Gayle entered the intersection and drove past a stop sign without stopping, police said.
Police stopped Gayle to investigate and then charged her with failure to obey a stop sign and with driving with a suspended license. Gayle was released on a written promise to appear on September 25 in Danbury Superior Court, according to police.
