Police Arrest Five At Sobriety Checkpoint

Town police and state police arrested five motorists on charges of driving under the influence during a sobriety checkpoint which they conducted on the night of Friday, September 7, and early morning hours of Saturday, September 8.

Nine town police and six state police set up the checkpoint on Wasserman Way near the commuter parking lot for Exit 11 of Interstate 84. The checkpoint ran from 7 pm on September 7, to 3 am on September 8.

During the enforcement project, the 15 police officers stopped all motorists who were driving in both directions on Wasserman Way to briefly interview them on whether they were under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

Police said that during the enforcement project they charged five people with driving under the influence:

They are: Damon Kimble, 41, of 11 Stone Bridge Trail, Sandy Hook; Mark Iannucci, 57, of New Fairfield; Richard Schriefer, 52, of Monroe; Daniel Pasqua, 37, of Southington; Michele Mayo, 40, of Wolcott.

The drivers are scheduled for arraignments on the charges in Danbury Superior Court, according to police.

Besides the five motorists charged with DUI, police issued many other violations during the checkpoint.

Police issued 34 infractions for violations including: failure to wear a seatbelt, use of a handheld cellphone while driving, driving an unregistered vehicle, possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police said that they recovered a stolen motor vehicle during the checkpoint.

Law enforcement grant money covers some police overtime costs for such enforcement projects.
