Benefiting Newtown and neighboring school students who have lost a parent, the fifth Childrenâs Open Charitable Trust golf tournament is taking place on September 24 in Weston.
Held at the Aspetuck Valley Country Club in Weston, registration opens at 9:30 am. A shot gun start is at 11:30 am. Donations of $225 covers participantsâ green fees and cart, refreshments, breakfast, lunch, dinner, and prizes.
Some openings still remain, notes event chairman and Mona Lisa of Newtown restaurant owner Tom Daoutis. He and event cochair Glenn Belush also welcome sponsors to contribute to the event. Hole sponsors are $200, gold are $500, and platinum are $1,000.
Scholarships are established for high school seniors who have achieved academic excellence and those in need because of their loss. Two $2,000 scholarships will go to Newtown, Monroe, and Trumbull students who are pursuing a higher education, Daoutis said.
Daouits has been involved with charitable trust for five years and formerly hosted the event at the Stone Barn at Whitney Farms Golf Course in Monroe.
