Newtown Cobras 3, Ridgefield Sky Blue 1: In their first league contest of the season, the Cobras jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead that they would never relinquish. Elizabeth Teixeira tallied the first two goals with the third hammered in by Piper Salva. The goals were the result of sharp passing by the Cobras, who moved the ball well during the game. The Cobras maintained pressure on Ridgefield with strong offensive efforts by Becca Filiato, Megan Riccardi, Elizabeth Cassetta, and Cameron Powers. Ridgefieldâs goal came on a penalty kick late in the second half. The defensive efforts of Riley Burns, Michaela Cosgriff, Meghan Delp, and Katie Stan, largely kept the ball away from the Cobra goalies, but Sophia Child and Julia Gerace were up to the task when the shots snuck through. Â

Dynamite 2, New Canaan 1: The Newtown Dynamite took to the road to take on the New Canaan Red team and came away with a victory. The first half had Newtown dominating in almost every aspect of the game, most importantly time of possession and shots on goal. But for all the time spent on New Canaanâs side of the field, the Red defense was able to come up with a stop or a clear to keep the game scoreless going into half. With the crowd feeling it was just a matter of time before Newtown would score, it was New Canaan which came out of half time with more energy and purpose and scored four minutes in on a breakaway to take a 1-0 lead. Newtown would answer 14 minutes later when New Canaan was called for tripping of Carly Swierbut in the penalty box. Jenna Lavelle casually buried the ensuing penalty kick in the upper left corner of the goal. With Gabby Reisert and Samantha Bicho anchoring the defense, Lauren Carrino and Emily Celentano kept up the pressure on the offensive end. With 10 minutes remaining, New Canaanâs defense softly cleared the ball up the middle which Emma Curtis put a foot on and sent right back for the winning goal.

Fairfield 2, Panthers 0: Juliet Grover kept the pressure on throughout the game with several shots on goal. The Panther offense was led by Kaitlyn McNicholas and Samantha Crespo. Veteran Mary Hufziger also dominated but was unable to connect with the net. Catherine Shaw proved to be an unusual suspect on offensive after fielding a pass from the venerable Lauren Russo for shot on goal. Maria Ringes proved that her catlike reflexes remained sharp in goal after a summer break. Kira Kelly shared goalie responsibilities with a beautiful save in the second half. Dani Otero showed huge hustle, teaming with Audrey Sedensky and Allie Paynter to contain the ball in Fairfield Territory. Jessica Cruz and Bryanna Benson answered Fairfieldâs push into Panther territory.
