Youth Arrested At High School

Police arrested a 16-year-old male Newtown High School student on multiple criminal charges September 10 following an incident.

Police said they charged the youth at about 1:50 pm with first-degree threatening, breach of peace, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to a police report, the boy had made comments on a school bus to several students that he wanted to blow up the school bus and also wanted to blow up the school.

When police were then looking for the youth as part of their investigation, they spotted him apparently burying some object in a field near the school. Police said they found a homemade smoking pipe of the type used for smoking drugs in the ground in the area where the boy was digging.

Police then arrested the youth and held him overnight on $500 bail for a September 11 appearance in Danbury Youthful Offender Court. Because the youth is under age 18, his identity is shielded from disclosure by state law.
