Women’s Cancer Prevention Focus Of Discovery Series

FARMINGTON — What steps can women take to prevent breast cancer and other cancers? Is family history a major risk factor for women’s cancers? Who should consider genetic counseling or testing? Where can women find resources and support?

These questions and more will be answered on Tuesday, September 25, at the University of Connecticut Health Center when the Discovery Series presents, “The Power of Prevention.” The program will begin at 7 pm in the Health Center’s Keller Auditorium. Registration is required - call 800-535-6232.

Speakers will include Molly Brewer, DVM, MD, MS, director of the Health Center’s Division of Gynecologic Oncology, as well as genetic counselors Robin Schwartz, MS, and Jennifer Stroop, MS, who are working with Dr Brewer in the new Women’s Cancer Prevention Program. Robert Greenstein, MD, director of the Division of Human Genetics, will serve as moderator.

“Information can be power. Our goal is to help women understand their risk of cancer, or recurrence of cancer, and help them create meaningful cancer prevention strategies,” Dr Brewer explained.

The University of Connecticut Health Center includes the schools of medicine and dental medicine, the UConn Medical Group, University Dentists, and John Dempsey Hospital. To learn more about the UConn Health Center, visit www.uchc.edu
