Moving Violations

About 8 pm on September 4, while conducting a stationary radar patrol, police spotted motorist Martin Sheppard, 29, of Danbury driving a Toyota Camry 57 miles per hour in a 30-mph zone on Wasserman Way, near Reed Intermediate School, so they stopped Sheppard to investigate.

Police charged Sheppard with speeding and with driving with a suspended license after learning that his license had been suspended for more than a year.

Following arrest processing, police released Sheppard on a written promise to appear for arraignment on September 18 in Danbury Superior Court.

No Response

Police said they served an arrest warrant against James Tevnan, 49, of 44 Little Brook Lane on the afternoon of August 31, because he had not responded to their issuance of a past parking violation.

Police charged Tevnan with failure to respond to an infraction stemming from that parking violation. After he posted $37 bail, police released Tevnan for a September 14 court appearance.

VW Vs Toyota

About 7:45 am August 27, after he backed a 1996 Volkswagen Jetta out of his driveway, motorist Jesse Rebar, 26, of 35 Buttonball Drive inadvertently struck a parked, unoccupied 1998 Toyota Corolla, which was located across the street, police report.

After investigating, police verbally warned Rebar for unsafe backing.

Sandy Hook Crash

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Glen Road, Riverside Road, Washington Avenue, and Church Hill Road in Sandy Hook Center about 10 am September 2.

Motorist Veronica Taborsky, 75, of Venice, Fla., who was driving a 2003 Chrysler van northward on Washington Avenue, was attempting  to make a left turn onto Church Hill Road, as motorist Barbara Summo, 46, of Housatonic Drive, who was driving a 2000 Dodge van southward on Glen Road, was attempting to drive straight through the intersection to reach Washington Avenue, police said.

The two vans collided in the intersection. There were no injuries. Taborsky received a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Rearrest Warrant

On September 6, police charged William Watson, 46, of Waterbury on a rearrest warrant listing two counts of first-degree failure to appear in court and one count each of driving under the influence, driving without a license, and possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle.

The original charges stem from a November 2006 sobriety checkpoint on Mt Pleasant Road at which Watson was stopped and then arrested on the motor vehicle offenses.

 Police held Watson on $50,000 bail for a September 7 court appearance.

Flagpole Crash

Police report a two-car accident at the hazardous flagpole intersection at Main Street and Church Hill Road at about 8 am September 6.

In that incident, motorist Tiffany Wolfe, 24, of 18 Mountain Laurel Lane, who was driving a 1996 Saab 900 sedan, was attempting to make a right turn from Church Hill Road onto Main Street, when she stopped for traffic conditions and was struck from behind by motorist Mary Kelley, 55, of 21 Bridge End Farm Lane, who was driving as 2001 Chrysler 300-M sedan, police said.

Kelley received a bump on the head in the accident, police said. Police verbally warned Kelley for following too closely.

  

Flagpole Accident

A two-vehicle collision occurred at the hazardous flagpole intersection at Main Street and Church Hill Road about 2:20 pm September 7, police report.

Motorist Michael Yeldell, 41, of Waterbury, who was driving a 1995 Geo Prizm westward on Church Hill Road, stopped at a stop sign, after which entered the intersection, but then stopped for southbound traffic on Main Street, police said.

Motorist Carol Ann Smith, 19, of 11 Crossbrook Road, who was driving a 1999 Volvo V-70 station wagon northward on Main Street, then struck the Geo, police said. There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Yeldell for failure to grant the right of way.

Highway Crash

Motorist Patrick Flynn, 51, of Monroe, who was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Impala eastward on Interstate 84, about one-half mile west of Exit 9, about 6:20 pm September 5, experienced a mechanical failure with the vehicle and lost control of its steering, state police said.

The Chevrolet struck guard cabling along the right road shoulder. Flynn was not injured. State police took no enforcement.

Ten Charges

Police said they held a warrant on Richard Serricchio, 41, of Shelton and when they realized that he was being released from jail on September 10, they went there and arrested him on ten charges, six of which were motor vehicle charges and four of which were court appearance charges. The motor vehicle charges stem from a 2005 incident, police said.

Police said they then held Serricchio on $20,000 bail for arraignment September 11 in Danbury Superior Court.

Deer Incident

About 8:09 am September 11, motorist Frances Brennan, 53, of Antler Pine Road was driving a 2005 Chevrolet station wagon southward near 65 Walnut Tree Hill Road, when a deer unexpectedly entered the street, police report. Brennan swerved to the right to avoid a collision, but hit a mailbox and hit the deer, police said.

 

Flagpole Collision

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the hazardous intersection of Church Hill Road and Main Street at the Main Street flagpole about 4:45 pm September 10.

Motorist Kristina Paddyfote, 17, of Middlebury, who was driving a 1999 Lexus RX-300 sport-utility vehicle westward on Church Hill Road, was then attempting to make a left turn onto southbound Main Street, police said.

At that time, motorist Kevin Zimmerman, 45, of 74 Hanover Road was driving a 2007 Honda Accord sedan northward on Main Street and was intending to travel straight through the intersection, police said.

As the Lexus attempted to make the left turn, the two vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Paddyfote received an infraction ticket for a stop sign violation, police said.

Berkshire Road

While on patrol on Berkshire Road (Route 34) in Sandy Hook about 10:12 am September 12, police spotted motorist James Marino, 22, of Oxford driving faster than the posted speed limit, so they stopped him to investigate.

Police charged Marino with traveling unreasonably fast and with driving while under suspension.

After posting $100 bail, police released Marino for a September 26 court appearance.
