Man Dies After  Auto Accident

A Monroe man, who until recently had lived in Newtown, died unexpectedly on September 6 in Danbury Hospital, after being stricken ill while driving and becoming involved in an accident on South Main Street in Newtown.

About 8:23 am September 6, motorist Eugene J. Donahue, 67, of Monroe was driving a 1995 Jeep Wrangler northward on South Main Street when the Jeep went out of control, crossed over into the southbound lane and then collided with a 1996 GMC Sierra pickup truck driven by Joseph Grasso, 74, of 88 Huntingtown Road, which was stopped and waiting at a stop sign on Cold Spring Road, police said.

Botsford firefighters removed Mr Donahue from the Jeep, police said. Ambulance volunteers transported Mr Donahue and Mr Grasso to Danbury Hospital, police said.

Mr Donahue later died at the hospital, police said. An autopsy revealed that he had died of natural causes, according to a spokeswoman for the chief state medical examiner’s office.

Mr Grasso was released from the hospital on September 7.

The accident is under investigation, police said this week.
