Litchfield Historical Society Offers Preschool Program
LITCHFIELD â For the first time, the Litchfield Historical Society offers a series of classes for preschoolers. Children are invited to learn about Litchfieldâs past through stories and songs and to create something unique to take home each week.
Classes will be held at the Tapping Reeve House, 82 South Street, on the fourth Tuesday of the month from 10 to 11:30 am. The first series of classes will run from September through November. After a short break for the holidays, Series II will run January through May.
Series I begins with âHelp Our Garden Growâ on September 25. The children will explore the gardens at the Tapping Reeve House and plant daffodil bulbs for everyone to enjoy next spring. Each child will decorate his or her own flower pot and take home a potted pansy in it.
âPumpkins, Pumpkins, Pumpkinsâ is the title feature on October 23. Youngsters will learn how pumpkins grow, create a special pumpkin project and take home their own pumpkin.
On November 27, children will get an early start on the Christmas celebration with âGingerbread For All.â They will learn about ginger and how early Litchfield residents purchased their spices for cooking. Everyone will create a fragrant ornament and decorate edible gingerbread figure.
Each class is $2 for members, $5 for nonmembers. All students must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is available for the entire series or each individual class. Space is limited.
