‘Dinner With Friends’ Opens This Weekend At The Little Theatre

Town Players of Newtown will present the Pulitzer Prize-winning play Dinner With Friends, being directed by Larry Kinnear, as its next production.

The play, written by playwright Donald Margulies, tells the story of two married couples who have been best friends for years.  In their Connecticut home, Karen and Gabe, international food writers (played by Danette Riso and Charlie Cowles), are giving a dinner for Beth and Tom (Kristi McKeever and Chris Luongo) which Tom does not attend.  It comes out during the course of the meal that Tom has left Beth for another woman.

This revelation to Karen and Gabe crushes them, as they had initially introduced Beth to Tom and had expected that the four of them would “grow old and fat together.”

The play is being produced by Suzanne Kinnear and lighting design will be by Stephen Cihanek of Pawling, N.Y.  Margot Isaacs of Newtown is the stage crew.

Performance dates for Dinner With Friends at The Little Theatre, on Orchard Hill Road in Newtown, are September 14-29, with Friday and Saturday curtain at 8 pm (plus an additional evening performance on Thursday, September 27, also at 8 pm), and Sunday matinees on September 16 and 23 at 2 pm.

Tickets are $18 for all of the evening shows, and $15 for the matinees.
