Become An Effective Advocate

 For Your Child

EAST NORWALK — Do you have a child with a learning disability or behavioral problem? Do you know what questions to ask? Are you an informed consumer for your child’s special education needs and rights? Can you advocate — effectively?

The special education world has the potential to be an overwhelming experience and process, but it can be less intimidating by “Becoming an Effective Advocate,” a ten-part series for parents and community-based agency professionals being sponsored by The Connecticut Association for Children and Adults with Learning Disabilities (CACLD).

The goal of the series is to help attendees become better advocates through an enhanced understanding of the how, when, where, who and why of the special education process. Presenters are from the State Department of Education (SDE), Connecticut Parent Advocacy Center (CPAC), CACLD, and professionals in private practice. Speakers will cover a wide range of topics, including special education laws, different types of testing, and how to interpret and utilize evaluations and assessments.

Beginning on September 18, workshops will meet on Tuesdays from 10 am until 1 pm at the CACLD Conference Room, 25 Van Zant Street.

CACLD membership benefits apply to all fees which range from $30 for a single session to $200 for the entire series. Nonmember fees range from $40 to $250. Partial and full scholarships are available.

For more information contact CACLD at 203-838-5010 or CACLD@optonline.net.

Established in 1963, CACLD is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping children and adults with learning disabilities and attention deficits achieve their full potential and lead productive, satisfying lives.
