Joan M.F. Rock, 92, died quietly at her winter residence in Bonita Springs, Fla., April 28. She lived with her daughter Jill Smith and her husband, Richard, in Florida and New Hartford, Conn. Mrs Rock was born in Oxford, England, on September 18, 1924.Queen Mary 2, traveling to her homeland.

She studied at the University of London and taught grade school in Oxford until 1948. She moved to the United States in 1949 and settled in Newtown shortly after with her husband, William Rock, an American paratrooper. Originally living on Riverside Road, she was an active member of the Sandy Hook Ladies' Auxiliary. In 1960, the family moved to 6 Main Street, the Thankeful House, until 1992.

Mrs Rock wore many hats. She worked for Dr Larry Daum of Dental Associates, Americo's School of Beauty as its director, and finally as a geriatric social worker at Fairfield Hills Hospital. She dedicated much of her life to Trinity Church in such roles as young people's fellowship advisor, Jr Choir Mother, Sunday School teacher, vestry member, and Lay Eucharistic Minister.

In addition to her daughter, she will be missed by her three grandchildren, Sarah Kanner, Tracey Kanner, and Seth Kanner.

She was predeceased by her husband in September 1984, and her eldest daughter, Gytha Rock Darconte, in December 2015.

Interment will be held in the Memorial Garden of Trinity Episcopal Church, 36 Main Street, Newtown, at 11:30 am, on Sunday, September 17, following the Sunday service. The service will be led by Jenny Montgomery assisted by Frank Dunn, former rector (1980s).

The family shares: "In body she was put to death. In spirit she is raised to life."
