Saturday At The Middle School
Saturday At The Middle School
Among the features at the harvest Health and Public Safety Fair this Saturday, September 16, will be a drawing for a mountain bike. The famous maker mountain bike features sturdy construction and is good for riding just about anywhere. If the winner of the drawing would prefer, a hot new scooter can be substituted. Applications for the drawing must be filled out at the Harvest Health Fair in the Middle School gym anytime from 10 am until 1:30 pm. The drawing will be at 1:30 pm.
The front lawn of the Middle School will feature many displays including a genuine, live cow from the Paproski Castle Hill Farm. The Jersey cow, called Candy, or a close relative, will be tethered on the lawn and will enjoy socializing with people attending the fair. Free individual containers of fresh pasteurized milk will be available to fair attendees.
Also displayed on the Middle School lawn will be a Newtown ambulance, Dodgingtown Fire Company pumper truck, Hawleyville Fire Company tanker truck, Newtown Hook and Ladder rescue truck with thermal imaging camera, and a Sandy Hook Fire Company fire truck. Demonstrations in the Middle School gym will include CPR rescue breathing by the American Red Cross and proper backpack use by Colonial Chiropractic. Weather permitting, a mini farmerâs market will also be held on the front lawn.
The fair will feature demonstrations all day, health screenings all day, free milk and apples, and at least 30 exhibitors. Once again this year, the Health and Public Safety Fair will provide a âHealth Report Cardâ for fair goers to visit all the booths with health screenings and develop their own private, personal health profile.
Among the health screenings will be blood pressure screening, balance/osteoporosis screening, body fat, flexibility testing, skin cancer screening, vision screening, height, weight screening, cholesterol screening, scoliosis and posture screening, and glaucoma screening.
At high noon, the Newtown Womanâs Club will announce the winners of the âHealthy Sloganâ contest. There will be nine prizes, three in each of three age groups â grades 1-3; grades 4 and 5; and grades 6-8. The deadline for submitted entries for the Healthy Poster Contest will be 5 pm on Friday, September 15. Entries can be submitted on the applications circulated throughout the schools or on any other kind of entry paper provided full information is also given including name, address, phone, age, and grade.
