To the Editor,

Our most recent sourdough bread baking class held at Newtown Senior Center as a benefit for FAITH Food Pantry raised over $350 for this local nonprofit that provides food assistance to our neighbors in need.

We are grateful for the help of many people who worked to make this event successful, fun for participants and one that flowed smoothly.

Senior Center Director Natalie Griffith and staff members Wendy Devereaux and Nicole Nicholson made everything look so easy. We can’t thank them enough! They designed and created the flyer, managed registrations, made sure we had the supplies we needed (other than sourdough) and helped in the kitchen on the day of the class.

We are also indebted to the behind-the-scenes help we received on the day of the class from Tanya Capeci and Joan Cominski.

Finally, we are grateful for our 30+ students who entrusted us with teaching them the art, science and fun of making sourdough. What a great group they were! We have loved receiving the texts, emails, Facebook private messages, and posts put on our personal Facebook pages, where they’ve shared pictures of the breads they have baked following the class, which all looked quite impressive. Some have shared different recipes they’ve tried — and now we will try as well!

If you missed the opportunity to attend this class, we are planning another in the near future. If you’re interested in attending, please reach out to either one of us and we’ll put you on our contact list!

With profound gratitude,

Jeff Capeci
