Overturned Vehicle

Police and emergency crews responded to the area of 74 The Boulevard at 11:45 pm September 7 after reports of a vehicle crash. Upon arrival they discovered an overturned 2008 Hyundai Tiberon SUV that was being operated by Joshua Hoyt, 24, of Danbury. The driver reportedly told officers he was traveling south when a northbound vehicle crossed into the southbound lane. Police said Hoyt lost control and crossed over the roadway causing his vehicle to roll onto its roof. Hoyt was issued a verbal warning for making a restricted turn. Police are also asking anyone in the area who may have witnessed the crash to contact Officer Mike McGowan at 203-426-5841.

Bridge Strike

Despite a warning sign signaling an 11’5” clearance, police say Mark Shaknaitis, 47, of Waterbury drove a 13’4” International box truck registered to NECO Systems, Inc into a Botsford Hill Road railroad bridge September 6. There was slight damage to the vehicle and no apparent damage to the bridge, which is maintained by Housatonic Railroad. The operator was issued a verbal warning for failure to obey a traffic sign.

New Milford Assist

On September 9, Newtown officers assisted New Milford officers serving arrest a warrant on Timothy Adams, 23, of Candlewood Lake Road. He was located at a residence in Newtown when the warrant was served and Adams was taken into custody after police say he made certain comments to Litchfield County Court staff the previous week. He faced a charge of breach of peace in a public place. Adams was held in Newtown and turned over to State Police for processing.

Cellphone And Suspension

At about 5:31 pm on September 6, officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of 3 Glover Avenue, and arrested Coleman Ridgeway, 50, of Waterbury on charges of operating while using a handheld phone and operating under suspension. He was processed and subsequently released on a written promise to appear in court on September 19.

Speeding Arrest

During radar traffic enforcement duty near 80 Toddy Hill Road around 9:30 am on September 5, police clocked a 2006 Chevy Van going 56 miles per hour in a 30 zone. After stopping the van, they determined the driver, Jesus Guzman of Danbury, was operating under suspension. He was arrested and charged with one count of speeding and one count for operating under suspension. Guzman was processed and released on a $100 cash bond pending a September 17 court date.

Sneeze Caused Crash

On September 5 at about 9:24 am, police and emergency crews responded to the area of the Main Street flag pole after reports of a two-vehicle crash. Upon arrival they learned that Nadia Gaddis, 24, of Ansonia was operating a 2000 Subaru Legacy west on Church Hill Road when she came to the Main Street intersection. The driver told police she sneezed and inadvertently accelerated into the intersection where she was struck by a northbound commercial dump truck being operated by John Burtsche, 50, of Dinglebrook Lane. Gaddis was transported by ambulance to a local hospital with undisclosed injuries. She was subsequently issued a written warning for failure to obey a stop sign and failure to carry an insurance card. Burtsche was also issued a written warning for failure to carry an insurance card.

Registration Expired

State Police responded to the area of Exit 9 on Interstate 84 around 5;20 pm on September 6 after a reported minor traffic collision. Police determined that Joseph Lopes, 41, of Danbury was operating a Nissan Murano eastbound just east of the on ramp when a preceding vehicle being operated by an Oxford resident slowed for traffic and was struck from behind by the Nissan. There was minor damage to both vehicles, but the Nissan was towed from the scene because of an expired registration.

Highway Crash

On September 7 at about 5:36 pm, State Police and Newtown fire and ambulance volunteers responded to Interstate 84 west in the area of Exit 9. According to the report, Rickland Gill, 45, of Waterbury was westbound on the highway in a 1999 Honda Odyssey, when he was struck by a 1997 BMW 318 being operated by Edmond Domingo of Union, N.J. Police say that Domingo was traveling east on the highway when the operator lost control and went into a uncontrolled skid, crossed the grassy median and hit the Nissan traveling in the opposite lane. All occupants in both vehicles sustained injuries and were transported to the hospital for treatment. No enforcement was taken by police.

Illegal Possession

Newtown Police responded to the area of 8 Lone Oak meadow Road at 9:33 pm September 7 after reports of a loud party. Following a brief investigation, police issued a summons to Douglas Baodisch, 60, charging him with permitting minors to possess alcohol. He was released on a written promise to appear in court September 17. Police also issued an infraction to an underage person for possession of alcohol, and another juvenile was issued a summons for possession of less than 4 ounces of marijuana, and illegal possession of paraphernalia.

Public Disturbance

At 8:30 pm September 9, police were called to the area of Nunnawauk Road and Mile Hill South after a report of a male yelling and causing a disturbance. Upon arrival, police located and issued Fred A Kelly of 12 Nunnawauk Road an infraction ticket for creating a public disturbance. The fine for that charge is $103.
