Sandy Hook Vandalism

Police said Linda Bailey, 43, of 19 Dayton Street was seen throwing flower pots and newspaper bundles near the intersection of Church Hill Road and Glen Road in Sandy Hook Center on the morning of September 4.

Police said they were in that area to investigate several complaints concerning property damage. Police charged Bailey with third degree criminal mischief and held her on a $1,000 bond for an arraignment on the charge that morning in Danbury Superior Court.

 

Windows Broken

Police report they received a complaint on the afternoon of September 4 about property damage at a commercial storefront at 13 Glen Road in Sandy Hook Center.

Police said someone had smashed four large windows, each of which measured 30 square feet in area, on the front of the building. Damage is estimated at $540. Police said they have a suspect in the case and are investigating.

 

Security Violation

Police report that sometime between 8:30 am and 2:15 pm on September 4, someone stole an ADT Security Services placard from the front yard at 74 Glen Road in Sandy Hook. Such signs display that the property is protected by a security system. Police ask anyone with information about the security sign theft to contact them at 426-5841.

Taunton Lane Crash

A two-car accident took place near 12 Taunton Lane about 9 am September 4.

Police said motorist Anthony McLeod, 54, of Danbury, who was driving a 1990 Honda Accord, was heading northward on the road, as motorist Mark Seaman, 53, of 96 Hanover Road, who was driving a 1990 Chevrolet Caprice station wagon, was heading southward there.

The Honda crossed over into the southbound lane and collided with the Chevrolet, police report. Seaman was treated at the accident scene by ambulance staffers. Police issued McLeod an infraction ticket for failure to drive to the right.

Lincoln Vs Ford

Motorist Milton House, 68, of Clearwater, Fla., who was driving a 1997 Lincoln Town Car sedan, pulled out from Huntingtown Road onto South Main Street at about 11 pm September 1, and collided with motorist Daniel Lesinsky, 44, of Shelton, who was driving a 2000 Ford F-250 Ford pickup truck southward on South Main Street, police report.

There were no injuries the accident, police said. Police issued House an infraction ticket for failure to grant the right of way.

Old Hawleyville Road

At about 6:35 pm September 3, motorist Tasim Canoski, 37, of Danbury, who was driving a 2001 Chevrolet 3500 dump truck, pulled out of the driveway at 66 Old Hawleyville Road and collided with motorist Uma Jhawar, 47, of Brookfield, who was driving by in a 1999 Toyota Corolla, police said. There were no injuries. Police gave Canoski a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.

Mailbox Missing

On August 31, police learned that someone stole a mailbox from the premises at 5-A High Bridge Road. Police are investigating the theft and ask anyone with information about the thievery to contact them at 426-5841.

Mile Hill Crash

Motorist Melita Lihzis, 20, of Nashua, N.H., was driving a 1996 Pontiac Grand Am eastward on Mile Hill Road about 3:45 pm August 30, when the Pontiac went out of control on a curve, struck the guardrailing along the westbound road shoulder and then hit the guardrailing along the eastbound road shoulder, police said.

Lihzis was uninjured in the crash, according to police. Police issued Lihzis a written warning for making a restricted turn and for failure to carry an automotive insurance card.

Church Hill DUI

Police report they saw motorist Justin L. Alter, 17, of 67 Cypress Trail, Sandy Hook, make a right turn from Queen Street onto Church Hill Road without stopping for a red traffic signal at about 12:34 am September 6.

Police said they stopped Alter and investigated, charging him with a traffic signal violation, driving under the influence, possession of alcohol by a minor in a motor vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

After processing Alter’s arrest, police released him on a $50 bond for a September 23 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

 

Riverside Road DUI

Police said they saw motorist Chris Shatinsky, 44, of Laceyville, Penn., driving erratically on Riverside Road in Sandy Hook about 2 am September 7. Police said Shatinsky failed field sobriety tests and was charged with driving under the influence and failure to drive to the right.

After processing the arrest, police released Shatinsky on a $100 bond for a September 23 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Juniper Road

While on patrol about 3:20 pm September 6, police said they saw motorist John Fein, 59, of 9 Sugar Street driving a 2000 Toyota Corolla sedan on Juniper Road with a missing brake lamp.

Police said they stopped Fein to investigate and charged him with failure to have a brake lamp and with driving while under suspension.

Police released Fein from custody on a promise to appear September 19 in Danbury Superior Court.

Troll Turns Up

Police report that a troll lawn ornament, which apparently was stolen from the lawn of a residence in the Taunton district sometime in late August, has been turned over to them for safekeeping. The troll is wearing a tall conical red hat. Police ask that the person missing the elfin toy to contact them to claim it.

Berkshire Collision

A two-vehicle accident occurred near 98 Berkshire Road about 7:20 am September 3, police report.

The crash involved a 1994 Nissan Sentra driven by Peter Troetti, III, 42, of Danbury, and a 1997 Ford Explorer driven by Richard Meisenheimer, 35, of 10 Timber Mill Road, police report.

Local ambulance volunteers transported Meisenheimer to Danbury Hospital for evaluation, police said. Police said Troetti received an arm injury and was treated at the scene.

Police issued Troetti a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

Newtown General Store

A two-vehicle accident happened about 7:30 am September 2 at Newtown General Store on Main Street.

A 1999 Ford F-350 pickup truck, driven by Todd Fiorilla, 35, of 56 Parmalee Hill Road, backed into a 1996 Nissan Maxima driven by Chad Thomas, 19, of 11 Stone Fence Lane, police report.

There were no injuries. Police said that after investigating the mishap, they issued Fiorilla a written warning for unsafe backing.

Flagpole DUI

Police said that motorist Julio Lasso, 37, of Danbury, who was driving a 1992 Mazda MX-3 westbound on Church Hill Road about 3:20 pm September 7, struck the rear end of a 1996 Honda Accord driven by Frances Buono, 45, of Trumbull. At that time, the Honda was stopped at a stop sign on Church Hill Road at the Main Street flagpole, police said.

There were no injuries. Police charged Lasso with driving under the influence, following too closely, and failure to have a driver’s license.

After processing the arrest, police released Lasso on a $500 bond for a September 23 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Interstate Crash

State police have described the details of an accident that occurred on both sides of Interstate 84, west of Exit 10 at about 3:45 pm September 7. The crash caused extensive travel delays.

Motorist Stacey Enright Gee, 29, of Bethel, who was driving a 2003 Saturn Vue in the left lane of westbound I-84, lost control of the auto and struck a tractor-trailer truck being driven in the right lane by Leroy Morris, 40, of Masonville, N.Y., state police said.

The Saturn then traveled across the highway’s median divider and crossed both of the eastbound travel lanes, rolling over several times as it did so, state police said.

Gee, who received minor injuries in the accident, was transported to Danbury Hospital, state police said. State police issued Gee an infraction ticket for a driving violation.

Chevrolet Vs Pole

Motorist Chrysteul Pettway, 21, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 2001 Chevrolet sedan on the Exit 11 on-ramp of Interstate 84 about 10:45 am September 2, lost control of the vehicle and spun out while negotiating a curve, state police said. The auto struck a lightpost and knocked it over. Neither Pettway nor a passenger were injured, state police said. Police issued Pettway an infraction ticket for traveling too fast for conditions.

Exit 10 Mishap

Motorist Cynthia Mullet, 50, of Plain City, Ohio, was driving a 2000 Mazda on the Exit 10 on-ramp of eastbound Interstate 84 about 11:22 am September 1, when the auto spun out due to slippery roads, state police said. The Mazda hit metal-beam guardrailing on the left road shoulder and then struck wire guard cabling on the right road shoulder, state police said.

Mullet was not injured. State police issued her an infraction ticket for traveling too fast for conditions.

Route 302 Deer

Motorist Frank Gillotti, 34, of Southbury was driving a 1993 Pontiac Bonneville eastward on Route 302 about 7:45 pm September 6, when two deer ran onto the road and collided with the auto, police said. Gillotti was not injured. No enforcement action was taken.

Ford Vs Saturn

Police report a two-vehicle accident on eastbound Church Hill Road, just west of the Exit 10 on-ramp of eastbound Interstate 84, at about 9 pm September 4.

 The collision involved motorist Edmund Sullivan, 62, of 10 Glen Road, who was driving a 1988 Ford Econoline van, and Kristin Small, 21, of Bristol, who was driving a 2001 Saturn sedan, police said. There were no injuries. Police said Sullivan made an improper right turn.

Old Court Case

Newtown police said they learned on September 7 that state police in Westbrook were holding a man for whom Newtown police held an outstanding arrest warrant in connection with a motor vehicle case dating back to 1998.

Newtown police served that arrest warrant against Ryan Murray, 29, of Providence, R.I., charging him with failure to appear in court, plus three motor vehicle violations.

Newtown police released Murray on a $500 bond for a September 23 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

DUI Arrest

Police report that at about 1:30 am September 9, they received a cellular telephone call from a motorist on northbound South Main Street stating that a man was driving a white Oldsmobile erratically there.

Police said they spotted the Oldsmobile on northbound South Main Street near Mile Hill Road and observed its motion, stopping it on Queen Street. Police said they investigated and then charged the Oldsmobile’s driver, Scott Bretton, 41, of Monroe, with driving under the influence and driving with an inoperative tail lamp.

After processing the arrest, police released Bretton on a $50 bond for a September 23 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Drugs Stolen

Sometime between 2 pm September 4 and 6 pm September 8, someone stole a package from a mailbox on Plumtrees Road, police said. The package contained two bottles of prescription medication. The package was later found, but the drugs were missing, police said. Police are investigating.

Church Hill Accident

Police report a two-vehicle accident on Church Hill Road, just east of its intersection with Commerce Road, about 2 pm September 5.

Involved in the collision were Benjamin Moore, 17, of 42 Berkshire Road, who was driving a 2000 Ford, and Stacy Salicki, 33, of Plantsville, who was driving a 2000 Chevrolet, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Moore a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Fairfield Hills Crash

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the traffic signal at the intersection of Wasserman Way and Trades Lane at Fairfield Hills about 7:45 pm September 8.

Motorist Rogelio Romero, 29, of Danbury, who was driving a 2000 Honda westward on Wasserman Way, drove into the rear end of a 2001 Subaru, which was stopped at a red traffic signal, police said. Motorist Terence O’Grady, 61, of Wainscott, N.Y., was driving the Subaru. Police said O’Grady and Subaru passenger Mary Agatha Savage, 69, of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, both reported neck pain.

Police issued Romero an infraction ticket for following too closely.

Washbrook Road

Motorist Jay Romanelli, 17, of 10 Taunton Ridge Road was driving a 1991 Honda Prelude southward on Washbrook Road about 1:30 pm September 4, when he lost control of the auto and slid off the road at 17 Washbrook Road, police said. Romanelli was not injured. Police issued him a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Mitsubishi Vs BMW

Motorist Joseph Mirabelli, 46, of Monroe, who was driving a 2000 BMW Z-3 convertible roadster, was stopped at a stop sign on Hattertown Road at its intersection with Route 302 at about 4:40 pm September 7, police said.

A 2000 Mitsubishi Galant driven by Angelo D’Amato, 33, of Bethel, was stopped behind the BMW, police said.

The BMW started to move into the intersection and was struck from behind by the Mitsubishi, police said. There were no injuries. Police verbally warned D’Amato for failure to travel a safe distance apart.

Forgery/Larceny

Police report that they served an arrest warrant against Laura Pritchett, 45, of 3 Hawthorne Hill Road on September 9 at Danbury Superior Court, charging her with second degree forgery and fifth degree larceny. Pritchett was in court at the time in connection with another matter, police said.

Police said the forgery/larceny charges stem from an October 2002 incident in which Pritchett allegedly forged a stolen check in the amount of $390. Police listed the location of the incident as People’s Bank on Queen Street.

Police said Pritchett was arraigned in court on those charges September 9.

South Main Accident

Motorist Ross Proctor, 18, of 74 Butterfield Road, who was driving a 2000 Acura 3.2-TL southward on South Main Street, near Park Lane, about 5:45 pm September 9, stopped to make a left turn, police said.

Southbound motorist Marcus Burnett, 33, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 1999 Ford Escort, then struck the Acura from behind, police said. There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Burnett for following too closely.

Commerce Road

Motorist Kaitlyn DiVanno, 16, of 43 Jo-Mar Drive, who was driving a 1999 Honda Accord northward on Commerce Road at about 6:15 pm September 8, was learning how to drive under the instruction of Anthony DiVanno, 49, of the same address, police said. Anthony DiVanno was a licensed driving supervisor, police said.

At that time, motorist Adam Miressi, 27, of Woodbury, who was driving a 2003 Jeep Wrangler, did not see the Honda approaching and pulled out from a stop sign at the Newtown post office at 5 Commerce Road, resulting in a collision between the Jeep and the Honda, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Miressi for failure to grant the right of way at a stop sign.
