Morrissey Promoted At Aquarian

BRIDGEPORT — Donald J. Morrissey of Newtown has been appointed Aquarion Company’s vice president of finance, according to Aquarion President and Chief Executive Officer Charles V. Firlotte.

Formerly Aquarion Water Company’s controller, Mr Morrissey in his new capacity will continue to serve as head of the accounting department, as well as be responsible for Aquarion’s treasury matters, financial policies and planning, procedures and controls, and accounting practices. He will also evaluate new business opportunities, oversee corporate budgeting and reporting, audits, and the development of accounting and statistical data for internal control.

“As controller for our water utility business, Don distinguished himself in the areas of financial analysis, reporting, and management as well as being an energetic leader,” said Mr Firlotte. “I look forward to having him join our senior management team as we strive to grow and improve Aquarion’s operations.”

Mr Morrissey joined Aquarion Water Company’s predecessor, Bridgeport Hydraulic Company, in 1995 as manager of internal audit and financial projects. He was named manager of accounting in 1998 and director of accounting the following year. In 2001 he was promoted to the position of BHC Company controller.

Before joining Aquarion, Mr Morrissey held a number of accounting and auditing managerial positions of increasing responsibility at Reader’s Digest and Arthur Andersen. He is a Certified Public Accountant, holds an MBA from New York University’s Stern School of Business in Finance and International Business and a bachelor of science degree in accounting from the University of Connecticut.

Aquarion Company’s principal business is public water supply. Through its Aquarion Water Company subsidiary, is one of the ten largest investor-owned water utilities in the United States, serving approximately 211,000 homes and businesses, or approximately 677,000 people in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, and New Hampshire. Other businesses include contracted services of municipal water and wastewater systems through its Aquarion Services Company subsidiary and environmental engineering. Its parent firm is the Kelda Group of the United Kingdom.

Aquarion Services leverages the talent and expertise of both Aquarion and Kelda. It contracts for municipal and private water and wastewater operations and maintenance (O&M), specialty services, management consultations, engineering consulting services, and under a program tagged Safety Valve, offers consumer water line repair protection plans.

Kelda, through its Yorkshire Water subsidiary, provides water and wastewater services to 4.5 million people in the United Kingdom, operating some 130 water and 640 wastewater facilities. Kelda is also a significant contracted services provider.
