If you are a fan of Newtown High School sports, then there is a place on the ânet just for you ⦠the No Fly Zone.
Itâs a fan site created by Kyle Lyddy, a 16-year-old NHS junior, during that long, interminable summer when the ground was splattered with more rain drops than sunshine and a day at the beach wasnât necessarily a day at the beach.
âWith all that rain,â said Lyddy, who spent the summer at the Fairfield shore, âI had to do something. But itâs not for me â itâs for everyone in the community.â
Just type in that address listed above and get transported to a place (powered by Homestead Inspections) that offers a veritable smorgasbord for local fans â the rosters, the schedules, directions to South-West Conference schools, results and scouting reports, interactive polls, chants (got a catchy school tune caught in your head â email it in!) and even some No Fly t-shirts.
âWelcome to the official site for the NHS sports FANS! Newtown High School Athletics are growing, and the fans are the reason! We need to have a little bit more fun and make all of our courts and fields in Newtown: HOME! We need to make a little advantage for our teams, and this is where that will start! We will do a little fundraising, get whatever we need, and do whatever we have to do to help out NHS! The 2003-2004 sports year should be an exciting one, and I hope you are ready to have a good time, because you know I am!â
Of particular interest to fans (especially parents) is a link to the âwhite sports board,â comparable to the one outside the gymnasium inside the high school, where up-to-the-minute weather postponements and re-scheduling notices will be posted by physical education teacher Carl Strait. No need to call the athletic offices any longer!
âThis is awesome,â said an enthusiastic athletic director, Gregg Simon. âThe possibilities are great.â
