Frederic Arthur Wheeler
Frederic Arthur Wheeler, 86, of Brookfield, formerly of Pickens, S.C., and Sandy Hook, husband of the late Virginia Ann (Thayer) Wheeler, died September 3 at Danbury Hospital after a brief illness.
Mr Wheeler was born on December 13, 1916, in Norwalk, to the late Harold Arthur Wheeler and Margaret Heath Lane.
He was a loving father and grandfather to four children and their spouses, and four grandchildren; Melissa and her husband, Jeffrey Purser, of Danbury; Tad, and his wife Sherry, of Sherman; Bruce, and his wife Malinda, of Long Beach, Calif.; and Scott, and his wife Jan, of Caledonia, Mich.; and four grandchildren, Siobhan Purser, Morgan Wheeler, and Sarah and Amy Wheeler.
After graduation from Middlebury College, Middlebury, Vt., he was employed at the Bowery Bank in Manhattan before joining the Army and serving in the Medical Corps, in Honolulu, Hawaii. After the army, he worked in the sales division of the Bullard Co., in Bridgeport, until his retirement in 1981.
He and Ginny settled in Sandy Hook to raise their family. They retired to Pickens, S.C., and had just returned to Connecticut in April to be near the family.
During his life, he was active in the Boy and Girl Scouts, Junior Achievement, Historical Society, and was a lifelong stamp collector.
Calling hours and Memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 27, from 2 to 4 pm, at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made in Fredâs memory to either The American Heart Association or to The American Diabetes Association.
