Audubon Tree Identification Workshop

SOUTHBURY — The Audubon Center at Bent of the River is offering a Tree Identification Workshop on four Saturdays: September 20 and 27 and October 11 and 18.

The fall session of John Longstreth’s popular classes will focus on tree identification using foliage and leaf buds. Participants will learn to identify many local trees and shrubs by sight, and will be able to use a key to identify trees and shrubs throughout the temperate northern hemisphere.

The first session will cover basic plant anatomy, and twig, leaf, and bud shape. The following sessions will be entirely in the field going to a different ecosystem each week.

The course fee is $85, which includes an Audubon membership. Call the center 264-5098 to register for this program.

The Audubon Center at Bent of the River is at 185 East Flat Hill Road, off Route 172. Trails are open to visitors every day, dawn to dusk. For more information call 264-5098.
