Kettletown Fall Programs Planned
SOUTHBURY â The Kettletown State Park Interpretive Program continues to offer fall programs for youth and scout groups, campers and families. As usual, all programs are free to the public, but donations are accepted. For more information about any of the upcoming programs, contact park interpreter Lisa Monachelli at 264-5678.
On Saturday, September 15, at 10:30 am, during âAnimal Defense: The Stinky, Sneaky and Sometimes Scary Truth,â participants will discover the interesting and sometimes weird ways animals (such as spitting blood out of their eyes) defend themselves. Meet some live critters, learn about animal eating habits and try your own camouflages during The Thicket Game. The program will meet at the beach.
Then at 7:30 pm on Saturday, âReptiles and Amphibians of Connecticutâ will offer a slide show on the snakes, turtles, frogs, salamanders, and toads that call Connecticut home. Participants will see some live specimens and compete in a frog-calling contest. Meet at the parkâs Camp Office.
On Saturday, September 22, at 10:30 am, during âDens, Tunnels and Tickets out of State,â learn how animals prepare for winter, become a migrating shorebird and to help build brush piles for winter wildlife habitat. This program will meet at the beach.
Later that day at 7:30 pm âThings with Wingsâ will concern the winged critters that hunt or migrate at night. Participants can try their hand (or wing!) at the Bat and Moth game.
Kettletown State Park is on Kettletown Road, off Route 67 in Southbury.
