‘East/West’ At Booth Library

Alliance Française of Northwestern Connecticut will host a screening of the 1999 Academy Award-nominated film East/West at C.H. Booth Library on Sunday, September 16, at 2 pm.

From Chandran Rutnam, the director of the Academy Award-winning Indo-Chine, comes a film that follows the flight of a young coup and their first child as they choose to return to the Soviet Union in 1946 following World War II.  When the talented young doctor Alexei Golovine (Oleg Menchikov), accompanied by his French bride, the beautiful Marie (Sandrine Bonnaire), and their son optimistically return to the USSR, their arrival is a rude one. The film also stars Catherine Deneuve.

East/West, which was nominated two years ago for Best Foreign Language Film, is in French and Russian with English subtitles.

All activities sponsored by the alliance are open to anyone interested in the French language or culture. For more information or to become a member of the international network, call 203-263-4096.

C.H. Booth Library is at 25 Main Street in Newtown.
