The following Scholarships have arrived in the Career Center at Newtown High School. Applications and/or information are available there. Please call Mrs McEvoy at 426-1915 if you have any questions.
COCA-COLA SCHOLARS PROGRAM â to recognize outstanding high school seniors. Recipients are not solely valedictorians but well-rounded individuals with highly developed interest in their community. They balance extracurricular activities with strong academic performances. Two hundred fifty merit-based scholarships are awarded annually. Fifty are for $20,000. The remaining 200 are for $4,000. Applications are in the Career Center but you can also apply online at www.thecoca-colacompany.com. Deadline for applications is October 31, 2000.
PRUDENTIAL SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY AWARDS 2000 â for high school students who have had outstanding involvement in a volunteer community service activity (at least in part) after September 1, 1999. Newtown High School will pick one student to nominate to go on to state level judging. One winner for each state will then be named by the National Association of Secondary School Principals. Deadline for applications to be in to the Newtown High School Career Center is October 27, 2000.
THE 2001 SAE ENGINEERING SCHOLARSHIPS â for high school seniors intending to earn a degree in engineering or a related science. Applicant must be a US citizen and meet minimum requirements with regard to grade point average, SAT, and/or ACT scores as outlined in the individual requirements of each scholarship. THE AFS CONGRESS-BUNDESTAG SCHOLAR PROGRAM â Congress is searching for young ambassadors to represent the US in Germany for an academic year. To apply you must: be a US citizen; have a GPA of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale/at least a B average; be a sophomore, junior, or senior when you apply; and be between the ages of 15 and 18 as of July 1, 2001. The deadline to apply is December 8, 2000.
