Jewish Traveler To Speak

DANBURY — “Traveling to Jewish Europe” will be the theme of a talk by author and journalist Ben G. Frank at 11 am on Sunday, September 17, at Mt Moses Synagogue, Lake Waubeeka, Danbury.

The event, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by the Jewish Federation. A light brunch and coffee will be served.

Mr Frank likens him to the medieval Jewish traveler Benjamin of Tudela who chronicled in the 12th century his visits to Jewish communities in the world. Ben Frank has traveled extensively throughout Europe, including Russia, and has written two books, A Travel Guide To Jewish Europe and A Travel Guide To Jewish Russia and Ukraine.

Among the countries he will talk about on September 17 will be Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, and Slovakia. Mr Frank recently returned from a trip to the Balkans and will share some of his experiences there. He will also comment on the situation of the Jews in Russia today as well as guide the reader to the background and history of Jewish communities in the former USSR.

The community is welcome to join us for this event. Reservations are requested. For more information and directions, call 792-6353.
