Marge Humiston
Marjorie L. (Caton) Humiston of Southbury, Conn., peacefully passed into our Lord’s care on September 6, 2023, after an illness while in Hospice at River Glen of Southbury.
She was the beloved wife of “Hughie” D. Humiston Jr for 74 years.
Marjorie was born October 30, 1929, the daughter of the late Harold M. and Blanch E. (Whittemore) Caton. She is a graduate of Woodbury High School.
She was a devoted congregationalist with South Britain Congregational Church. While with South Britain, she celebrated many accomplishments: Marge and Hughie were married there, as well as her children’s baptisms, her daughters’ weddings, her granddaughter’s baptism, and finally Marge and Hughie renewed their vows in 2019.
Marjorie and Hughie were enthusiastic square dancers with the Rocking Roosters of Newtown and were considered lifetime members after 50 years.
She is preceded in death by her brother, Richard Caton of Marshfield, Mo., her sister-in-law Marie Caton of Woodbury, Conn., and Susan Caton of Lexington, N.C. Besides her husband, Marjorie is survived by her daughters, Patricia Holbrook and her husband Harold of Marion, N.C., and Judith Simpson and her husband Joseph of Southbury, Conn. Marjorie is also survived by her brothers, Alvin Caton of Woodbury, Conn., and James Caton of Lexington, N.C., three grandchildren, Danielle Sterling, Amy Simpson, Andrew Simpson, four great grandchildren, Courtney Blair, Abigal Simpson, Landon Simpson, Kayden Simpson, and one great-great granddaughter, Khloe Pollitt.
A celebration of life will be held on October 28, 2023 at the South Britain Congregational Church, 693 South Britain Rd Southbury, CT 06488 at 11 am. Refreshments will be served immediately following the service across the street at the Parish Hall.
