Kathy-Jo (Craven) Ottoshavett, 76, of Brookfield, entered into the gates of heaven where she was reunited with many loved ones that passed before her on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, in the comfort of her home surrounded by her family who she adored. She was the loving wife of Joseph Ottoshavett for over 30 years.

Kathy was born in Bangor, Maine, on July 28, 1947, daughter of the late Carl and Catherine (Curtis) Craven. After graduating high school in Maine, Kathy moved to Connecticut to further her education, settling in Newtown where she raised her daughters and later met her husband, Joe. The two of them later resided in Brookfield for the past 20 years, where they enjoyed their beautiful home. Kathy’s “green thumb” was displayed by her home’s beautiful landscaping, which was always manicured to a “T.” The beautiful grounds also housed her gardens that were always abundant with flowers and vegetables.

For many years, Kathy worked for Newtown Savings Bank as the president’s administrative assistant; she loved using her skill of typing 120 words per minute. All of her grandchildren will always cherish “Grammy Days,” where they would play games and share wonderful memories of baking and cooking together. She absolutely adored her grandchildren, always calling them her bunnies. She was also a natural mother and loved babies, as they would always feel comfortable around her, especially her great grandson.

Kathy cherished family traditions whether it was cooking and baking home-cooked meals for everyone, or the holidays. She even made her own family cookbook so her homemade recipes could live on for generations to come. Christmas was one of Kathy’s favorite holidays, always having a separate Christmas tree every year just to display her vast array of Santa Claus ornaments. Whether it was having a nice glass of wine, enjoying a nice crossword puzzle, or planning out her iconic Easter celebration with an egg hunt for her grandbunnies, Kathy will be missed by all.

Besides her loving husband Joe, or as she called him, “Fred,” of Brookfield, Kathy leaves behind to cherish her memory her two daughters, Kari Del Vecchio and her husband Daniel J. and Kimberly Schmus and her husband Bob both of Bridgewater. She also leaves behind her sisters, Sharon Boltrom and her husband Frank, Martha Craven, and Shelly Craven, all of Maine, her five grandchildren whom she loved dearly, Emma Del Vecchio (Michael Leslie), Lyndsey Del Vecchio (Dylan Bennett), Ellie Schmus (Peter Sproviero), Lana Del Vecchio (Zac Tibbatts), Camden Schmus, and her great grandson, Greyson Tibbatts, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, and friends. She was predeceased by her brothers, Allen, Carl “Skip,” and Frank Craven, as well as her first husband and father of her daughters, Clifford “Kip” Pomeroy.

Arrangements: A funeral service will be held at 11 am at the Congregational Church of Brookfield, 160 Whisconier Road, Brookfield, CT 06804, on Saturday, September 16, 2023. Burial of cremains will follow at Newtown Village Cemetery in Newtown. Because of Kathy’s love for flowers and vibrant colors, the family would like to encourage friends and family attending her services to wear beautiful bright colors in honor of her. Brookside Memorial, the Albini Family Funeral Home & Crematory, 200 Benson Road, Middlebury, has been entrusted with handling Kathy’s funeral arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Kathy’s memory to: Regional Hospice of Danbury, 30 Milestone Road, Danbury, CT 06810, regionalhospicect.org; or Brookfield Congregation Church, 160 Whisconier Road, Brookfield, CT 06804
